good to see both Martin & Franklin bowling well in the opening session - I'm almost certain that it has as much to do with having a newish ball & 1st session conditions for these 2.............

both lost their length & pace as they day progressed - not bowling fit enough?????

Vettori troubled everyone including Gilchrist - the difference being Gilchrist's ability to back himself & clear the rope even when beaten in the air...........

But then that statement is wrong it is not 50/50 . If theres a chance it goes 50% either way how does Aussie get more?
A 50/50 decision is one which can go either way, one which you could say is acceptable whichever way it goes. What people are saying is that in these cases Australia gets the benefit of doubt, so to speak, more often than the other teams. Whether this is true or not is another point altogether.

Ok I have a view on this 50/50 thing with AUS but it is getting rather boring and pathetic.

Does everyone agree that we should stop talking about it at least until the first test finishes?

Great bowling, showing up the weaknesses of NZ batsman. Very good candidates for LBW when they lurch foward and play around their pads.

I think NZ should try and play positive cricket, and concentrate on getting 250+. Hopefully Vettori & Franklin can bowl them out.

NZ 5/78

Not looking good for the black caps.

Great session of cricket.

Just awesome to watch the Aussies knock over a top order like that, working superbly as a bowling unit..Although not great from a NZ supporters point of view.

If we hussle and can get 150- 200 more runs then at least the bowlers will have something to work with.

McCullum and Marshall need a big partnership for us to have any chance

NZ 5/78 at lunch. All over today?
Possibly

I hope not though.

A good chase on the fifth day of around 250 would be awesome.

Australia can basically win a game in a session. Thats what makes them so great.

Great bowling from Australia in the first session. Marshall and McCullum are really the last hope (Vettori can bat but not sure if we can rely on him to be in a big partnership and put us back in the match), both very good players so there is still hope of both getting a decent score in a big partnership and setting a respectable target for Australia. Can't lose either Marshall or McCullum in the next session though.

Almost the last hope here but Vettori needs to be back in the shed before all chances are gone.

Yep, tbh I think it will be all over by today.

Sad really. I wasn't expecting a win or even a draw, I just wanted to see us try defend a reasonable target with Vettori the key factor.

Knew this would happen. All well and good with the 1st innings but it means nothing unless u back it up, was hoping they could repeat but the big red button was too tempting it seems!

the NZL 1st innings looks good on paper v AUS, but IMO if you take Marshall's partnerships with Cumming & Astle out then there were no other partnerships to speak of and the batting fell apart once he was gone...........

missed the 1st session today but wasn't surprised when I saw the scoreline re my post last night..............

AUS bowling well straight from in close - whereas the NZL bowlers were bowling from a bit wider so were heading towards leg with the angle, let alone the natural swing from Martin & O'Brien...........

didn't see the dismissals for Cumming, Vincent & Astle so I can't comment on them - Flem was plumb, Macca self destructed again, Marshall got another beauty (only criticism being that perhaps he was too defensive, but understandable considering what was happening), McCullum slightly unlucky..........

4 lbws with Dizzy having 3 - IMO too much playing across the line on balls that are on a fuller length - should be looking to play straighter - a ODI bad habit & lack of concentration / patience?????
