Enjoyable first session, wish Vettori could have had a few more overs to Katich before the break though! Katich was having some problems against him just before lunch, will probably come back more composed after the break though.

Vettori was turning a few quite sharply on some patches on the pitch, NZ batsmen might be a bit worried about the prospect of facing Warne, but to be honest the left-handed Australian batsmen might be equally worried about facing Vettori in the 2nd innings. Intriguing match so far, hope NZ don't throw away the good work of the first 2 and a bit days with a really bad session, Australia could easily put themselves back in front with a big session from Gilchrist and Katich.

this game suprized me...

I would have thought new zealand would get bowled out for 180 odd.. and that aussie would have scored around 600 .. heh

glad to see nz making a comp outta it

On whose definition of 50-50 calls?
It was Mark Richardson who came up with the amount of 50/50 calls.

Suprise suprise he never made runs against Australia so it must have been those cheating umpires that robbed him of great averages like the ones he has against Bangledesh and Zim. :D :D

Good partnership forming between Katich and Gilchrist here after New Zealand effectively won the first session of the day. Still a competitive and even test though but we need a wicket soon before the Australians break away.

Yep. New Zealand will want a sizeable lead, they won't want to be behind by any margin, no matter how small.

In the recent tour of Aus including ODI's the count was 11-4 in favour of aus for the 50/50 calls
This could possibly be because Australian bowlers bowled better therefore received more 50/50 calls. A more fairer analysis is to calculate the percentage of 50/50 decision (admittingly very subjective on the definition of a 50/50 decision) going towards Australia when they are bowling and the amount of decision going towards New Zealand when they are bowling.

100 partnership brought up, as well as the Australian 300. A wicket really is crucial to haulting the Australians with Gilchrist in particular scoring his runs extremely quickly.

Gilchrist is being absolutely brutal here. Great to watch.
Well he has contributed 68 of the partnership now worth 106...typical Gilchrist, as usual taking the game away from the opposition.

Considering the number of overs bowled, it seems O'Brien doesn't exactly have the captains confidence.

Anyone think that Franklin and Martin could be getting rather tired? ( or will be by the end of the match ).

I'm thinking O'Brien is getting a bowl now due to lack of options rather than any desire/plan on the part of Fleming.

Katich has looked awesome today. He's shown a great balance between attack and defence recently, firsly in India and now here. Certainly he has to be the permanant number 6 for Australia now.

An interesting thing about this match is the fact that while it's probably back to about even now, New Zealand have still dominated most of the match in terms of time. Usually Australia make a big point of trying to win each individual session, but in this game New Zealand swept all three sessions on the first day and won the 1st and 3rd sessions on day two, and the first session on day three. It's really only yesterday afternoon when McGrath grabbed 5 quick wickets and the openers got off to a good start and this afternoon when Gilchrist and Katich have dominated that Australia have been on top, and yet they've managed to get back to parity in terms of the match situation.

Australia all out 432. NZ lead by 1. They hope they won't lose a wicket tonight.

I'd still put NZ ahead becuase aus have to bat last against Vettori.

That said, NZ must be worried..they've done very well for the most part and Aus are still right with them.

Amazing to think after the hiding Gilchrist gave Vettori he still finished with an economy rate of 2.63 along with his 5 wickets

Honours even after this day, very close.

However I would have to put the Aussies as the favourites right now, due to them being the better side with the better players. Australia will be looking to take wickets right throughout the day, setting up a chase of anything around 4 RPO max (ie. 300 runs at 80 overs on the fiifth day).
