That was a good score to wake up to. Really hope Williamson tons up here, not only for the team but to reaffirm to himself that he can kick on.

Setting them 350 with 4 sessions to go should be the goal. Would require one of McCullum or Neesh firing or a Southee cameo though

I've seen him get a number of wickets with strangles down the leg side and false shots from batsman who have just managed to get through Boult and Southee and decide it's time to make hay.
Think you're being a bit harsh on Wagner here. Since he came back into the team against England last year, he's taken 49 wickets in 12 matches at 30 apiece. Yeah when he's bad - as he was throughout most of the series v WI last year - he can be pretty awful. But most of the time he settles into a challenging line and length outside off-stump and looks to build pressure until a mistake is made. I agree that he probably wouldn't be nearly as effective if he didn't have Southee and Boult headlining him, but that's all moot.

Today and yesterday, Wagner almost single-handedly reversed the momentum of the match. He did the same in the first test v India last year. He's not world class, but he makes telling contributions on a fairly regular basis. In-lieu of a superstar quick bowler (fingers-crossed that Milne eventually comes good) I think Wags will do fine.

Very impressed with Holder today. Pick of the bowlers for me. Handy lower order bat, too.

WI definitely have some good young talent.

250 lead or 250 score?
At the moment, I think a 250 lead would give both teams an even chance of a win.

A lot depends on the pitch. It's still a decent batting surface, but there were a few balls today that kept low. If that continues to get worse batting last could be rather difficult.

Yes I loved his release, was pretty accurate from what I saw and with that height always had Williamson a little uncertain.
it's scary to think that's he's doing this despite being nowhere near fully exploiting his physical attritubes. A little biomechanics and he's on track for being an ATG imo.

I haven't watched much of this test but from all reports, good move by including J Holder which is what many have been calling for from day 1. Bad move (and yes I'm gonna beat a dead horse here) was playing 5 freaking bowlers. We could have really used an extra batsman to partner up with Holder and Ramdin. Imagine what might have been with an extra 40+ runs that an extra batsman could have added, not to mention the fact that Shane has been pretty useless. He could well a truly prove me wrong tomorrow but it still won't change my perspective on the folly of picking 5 bowlers.
