Oram has done more than H. Marshall in the tour of Zimbabwe and S.A.
Oram's ODI batting is probably overrated as we have this whole mentality that he would be like Cairns but really he doesn't bat like Cairns and it is about time that we all realised that. Oram can bat but he has his own style and takes longer to get settled than Cairns did. Oram when he started his career with CD, he batted about number four, in ODI's he comes in at number 6 or later, and is expected to smash the ball around but that is not how he plays.
My biggest criticism of Oram's batting in ODI's is that he appears to over-complicate things for himself, often trying premeditated dinky shots rather than playing to his strength and playing the ball straight down the ground in the early part of his innings. He's a strong enough lad to play with the full face of the bat. No doubting his ability with the bat....we've all seen what he's done in test matches.

that's a bloody good point. this morning he tried so hard to play shots of his leg or reverse sweeps. hopefully braces does what he is supposed to do and pull him aside and tell him to stop playing such shots.

Sportchic - Cairns > Oram in all facets bar test match batting

As far as I am concerned Oram should be dropped until he can bowl. His ODI batting record is embarrassing for someone playing as a specialist batsman. The guy has potential, no doubt about that, but someone like Fulton would be of much greater value in the number 6 role.

Well, he did hit four 6s in a row against Oz, though I don't think he'll be repeating it anytime soon...
But was it at the end of an inning where 24 was needed to save a follow on? ;)

can i ask a question . . .

what is it with fulton that makes him so special? stats anyone?

well at the moment fulton isn't over there so we have to make do with what we have and hope that Oram pulls through and magically fulfills his potential in the next game.

though i will say that oram's footwork last night was pretty shocking, - well actually it was pretty non existent which was not what we normally see from him. if he moved his feet more he would have been able to play / select better shots which would have kept the score moving.

Here is Fulton's first class and oneday list A record....

First-class 40 66 6 2952 301* 49.20 6 15
List A 42 38 4 1067 115* 31.38 1 8

Can't think of any other current NZers with a better first class average.....40 is normally top notch in NZ conditions

A first class average of 50 is a pretty good reason. His ODI record isn't too bad either, compared to some others in the black caps.

wow those stats are pretty sharp, maybe he should be considered for the odi's against sri lanka - i wouldn't put him in against australia yet, but it would be interesting to see how he goes.

Not sure if anyones actually made mention of what a rubbish oneday wicket that was last night........especially towards the end under lights when the ball was old. I noticed when Adams was out LBW that the ball was almost black in colour

his list a record is good, not too worried about his first class record as we look better batting in tests than odi's. but his list a record is promising, could be a goer for the future if current form in the team continues. maybe if oram doesn't get it right in the next 3 odi's he could come in for oram and let oram go back to domestic cricket and whack the bowlers around and get some confidence.

it is really cool to have a women commentating, but yeah she is a bit wrong in what she says which is frustrating.
