Anyway what's happened to Srinath?
He took a break from the Dhaka one day series. Then he was not selected as he said he had an injury . Ganguly is persuading him to play in AUS . He is no longer keen on playing. I think most probably he will opt out and retire.

just got in from work about 1/2 hour ago to read the good news.....I must admit I wasn't thinking the Vincent would be around that long when I saw Wiseman come out to act as his runner.....

congrats to both Vincent & Richardson for their tons.......interesting to see that Styris came out at No.3 and not Fleming or Tuffey as Nigh****chman.

The run rate is not flash at less than 3 an over, and it will be interesting to see when NZ decide to put the foot down and go after the Indian bowling. If possible I'd say they will look to have more than 500 in the bank b4 deciding to declare, just to ensure they do not need to bat again.

I do not believe the NZ attack capable of taking 20 wickets unless the Indian batsmen self destruct against a big follow on target.

Day 1 to the Kiwis :D

They didn't do that in many test matches, and DON"T forget, Australian WK happens to be a class batsman, so they atleast had 6 specialist batsman, Indian test keeper on the other hand isn't much of a batsman.Getting into the match with a additional pacer in place of a specialist batsman would be suicidal for India!
true they do not do it very often, but that is missing the point. They are the best team in the game, with the most effective batting and bowling attacks, yet on occaision on flat pitches they have gone in with 5 specialist bowlers!

India's strength is it's batting & the weakness is the bowling or specifically the seam attack, as has been discussed adnauseum here. Playing with only 2 specialist seam bowlers in Australia is an excercise in lunacy unless you are on a spinners track. To win a match you need to take 20 wickets - India does not have the weapons to do so with an attack based upon 2 seamers and 2 spinners in Australia.

So far as the batting goes IMO India's batting pedigree is second only to that of Australia. If the likes of Dravid, SRT, Ganguly, Laxman, Sehwag etc are not going to get the runs for you, then you may as well go home. If you do not want to drop a batsman then replace one of the spinners, as there are at least 2 part time spinners as back up in SRT & Sehwag.

I think that will most probably be the case . They did that in the last 3 overseas tours. I think they will continue that in AUS .

382/2. NZ are on fire. I was in the middle of posting this and just realised that Richaedson was out for 145. But they are going superb. Styris is on 93*!:cool2:

Tea. NZ on 442/3. Styris is still in on 118, with Astle on 1. Fleming was dismissed for 30 by Tendulkar, bowled.

what a tremendous series this is shaping up to be for NZ cricket....

great to see Scotty Styris add his name to the list of century makers, and to think that all of them have been career Test bests on an Indian pitch - staggering!!!

I'm a bit disappointed that India didn't get put to the sword by forcing the pace earlier, but I'm not altogether convinced that a Test & Series victory has been uppermost in consideration for the Kiwis.

Here's hoping that Macca can stick around long enough in the morning to have a real dash & perhaps add his name as the 5th Kiwi to make a Test ton in this series!

at the moment this sereis is doing Indian cricket a lot of damage, and just when they don't want it - ahead of an overseas tour Down Under.....

No doubt some of our beloved 'terrace element' will re-emerge from their shell shocked silence to grace us with their presence during the forthcoming Tri-Series.

But the reality is that even should India win the Tri-Series in a canter it will have absolutely no bearing on their form, confidence or mind set going into the Test series in OZ.

My predictions:

* New Zealand declare overnight.
* India bat for two days and get bowled out for 550-600.
* New Zealand bat until tea on day 5 and India bat out to a draw

I am very very impressed by the responsibility shown by the Kiwi batsmen on this Tour - ok so Fleming hasn't scored many runs, but 4 other batsmen have scored tons so far.

In fact Fleming is the only recognised batsman to have missed out which can only be good for NZ batting that has relied so heavily upon him & Richardson!!! Regardless of the results on paper, this series could very well mark the coming of age of this NZ team and in particular the batting.

While it may be a shame that they perhaps lack the bowling attack to take advantage of their position in this series, it is still a tremendous achievement todate. They have in effect done an India to India in India!

The opening partnership by Richardson & Vincent narrowly missed becoming the alltime record partnership v India in India, a milestone that has stood for some considerable time.

The NZ batsmen have shown how to play the 'spin twins' on their own pitches. Some may say that these have not been typical Indian pitches, but even the Indian press acknowledge that this pitch is not that different to those in recent Indian Home Test victories against England & WI - and there were no local grumblings of discontent then.

The local press also point out that Kumble has been India's ace in the hole regarding their domination of touring teams, and that this test marks the first occaision the visiting team have posted a first innings total of 500 or more.

It may be just a wild flight of fancy as at this stage it is still far to early to tell (unless NZ win), but could this series also mark the end of the era of Indian Home invincability?

As Indian cricket continues to try to prepare less 'traditional Indian pitches', the Indian team may struggle to adjust and the tourists may be able to take advantage of this now that NZ has shown how to bat on the sub continent.

They usually don't report on cricket matches that don't involve the Australians here, but the India v NZ match did feature on tonight's news, basically because of a swarm of bees that invaded the ground... all the players had to lie flat on the ground to wait for them to fly over.

And they also showed the cramps suffered by Richardson. They were very funny. Got to give him at least 8 out of 10 for artistic effort.

:P
