I'm just waiting for Southern Man to come on and make a "Hopkins for McMillan" pitch for the 2nd test. His local hero McCullum could play as a specialist #3!

I wouldn't be surprised to se it happen after Hopkins has scored a half ton in the 1st innings - anyone know what his 'keeping has been like?????

except so far as the batting goes it'd probably be Styris to miss out rather than Macca (unless he scores well in the 2nd innings), now that Cairns & Vettori have formed a bowling partnership................

but what about his poor FC domestic average??????? :devil2: 8-)
Well, you only need to look at how the English fans on here rubbish their domestic average-toppers (Hick, Ramprakash, etc.).

I guess we just have to hope Marshall proves his worth again in the ODIs, because I'd eventually like to see a player like him in our test middle-order. At 100-200/3 a team's innings can still go either way, and I'd feel a lot better with someone who can come in, work the singles and consolidate. If one of our boundary-hitters is 'in', Marshall is the perfect junior partner.

Wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins had a New Zealand debut to remember, scoring a polished 71 then later being forced from the field after a ball from Vettori bounced and cracked him in the mouth in the first over after tea.

Brendon McCullum donned the pads for the rest of the innings.

Just about every fringe NZ bowler is over there playing league cricket it seems. Mason, Franklin, Adams, Butler, to name a few.

Meanwhile, an unlucky omission from the tri-series squad continues to dine on Norfolk trundlers....

Taylor's big ton inspires Wanderers

May 24, 2004 12:18

ROSS TAYLOR has staked an early claim to the Howes Percival Norfolk Alliance innings of the season.

The 20-year-old New Zealander hit 171 as Norwich Wanderers went top of the Premier Division with a 104-run win over Downham Town on Saturday at Barton Turf.

"It ranks among the best innings seen on the ground," said Wanderers' secretary, Nigel Rudd.

"Not only did he score 171 of our 276 for nine total, but 128 of his runs came in boundaries, with 14 fours and no fewer than 12 sixes.

"He showed just why he's considered a Test player of the future."

i meant that there was no point in bringing marshall in if he was out of form....like styris!
To be fair to Styris, before the test against England he was in incredible form, much like Butcher was in the Windies before returning. To say he's out of form after one test would be like saying Butcher is out of form, and I got hell for that one. ;)

Ross Taylor looking very impressive indeed.

Can anyone tell me which NZ'ers are playing for which teams? eg. Mason, Franklin, Adams?

They must delighted with securing him this season.

Bit like a local club Cleethorpes were when they got Mathew Sinclair in 2001.

I remember his 199* not out against Sheffield Collegiate when he went from 150 to 199 in 18 balls. He absolutely mortaled a ball out of the ground and into a primary school next door over some trees. Think he hit 5 sixes in 2 overs at one point.

Rather I think they did a good thing in not picking him for the Natwest Series.

I would prefer him to have him the chance to bag up his great start with another season in domestic cricket.

And I think he should at least back up his preformances.
