What is wrong with you? You're trying to make an argument out of nothing!

Yes, I am a Bangladesh fan. Is it something to be ashamed of?

Well I never thought Bangladesh would beat Australia after their pasting by England. Then again if you lose to Somerset after getting 340+ in a OD match then anything is possible.
Taunton Cricket ground from my memory of travelling there 5-6 years ago has shortish/closer boundaries. In World Cup 1999 and 1983 Taunton had the highest scores posted by the 2 teams playing . (I remember this clearly because it was Sri Lanka at the receiving end on both occasions. !! :@ )

So its not totally imperceptible to lose at Taunton after a 300+ score, but losing to Bangla is definitely a different kettle of fish altogether !! (Although IIRC reading some where that Cardiff also has shorter boundaries ?? )

Well... what does one say?

I watched the match, loved it... and yet, hated it. A large part of me wanted Bangladesh to win, but I`m an Aussie supporter. Dear oh dear. I don`t think it`s the loss that hurts so much, but rather the nature of it, and the games leading up to it. England have thrashed Bangladesh in the Tests and first ODI... and Australia lose their warm-up games and now this. My Dad was on the computer the whole time the match was on so unfortunately, a lot of things I wanted to say I can`t remember. But one can try.

Gilchrist`s dismissal looked plumb straight away. I was suprised to see hawk-eye and co saying it was going over the stumps. Just the fact that it was Mortaza was enough for me to be delighted. :)

Hayden looked scratchy through-out.

Ponting... oh Ponting. What the? Looked like a kid in his debut.

Martyn/Clarke scored decently but slowly. As soon as they went on the attack they were out.

Katich and Hussey did extremely well to fix things up. Haha, I think Hussey is still yet to be dismissed in an ODI.

Mortaza was amazing. Superb first spell really made me smile. His second (minus an over) was also fantastic considering he was bowling at the death. A few full-tosses, but no-one will remember them. Baisya was... indifferent. Some good wicket-taking deliveries but a lot of short-wide tripe. Nazmul looked very one-dimensional, a bit like Watson but slower. Did nothing with the ball other than sometimes landing it in the right area. Aftab and Rafique did their jobs superbly, you couldn`t have asked for much more.

Bangladesh top order was what it needed to be, solid. Some awesome (if you can call them that) defensive shots, and some brilliant drives. They did their job. Omar looks like he would be a decent test player, hence his work against England.

Bashar/Ashraful lived on the edge. And it worked. They took plenty of chances, and the payed off. Some stunning shots of the spinners and McGrath. Amazing batting, Australia never looked like getting a wicket.

And Aftab (you beauty) and Rafique saw them home. Crazy stuff to watch.

McGrath was below par. Didn`t get enough movement with the ball. Gillespie was the best, and yet nothing amazing. Kasper was steady. Hogg/Clarke got worked over and Hussey was himself.

Overall, a thriller to watch, Bangladesh really looked the better side for the clear majority of the match. Very happy to see Mortaza/Aftab up there, both their fielding was superb. Bangladesh`s batting was solid and inspiring. Hahah, it was frustrating to hear the commentators saying over and over "suprised that Ponting has chosen to bat". Why? He wanted to get his batters in form, post a dominating total that would be too daunting, and hence Bangladesh would implode.

In the end, I believe it came down to this. Australia came into the match trying to get into some form. Bangladesh came to win. That over-confidence by Australia, cost them the game. Bangladesh, with every shot they played, with every ball they bowled, were trying to win the match. Australia, with every shot they played, with every ball they bowled, tried to get into some form, tried to silence their critics.
The `Deshis won with a mature, proffessional performance, and their game plan in both bowling and batting was clearly superior.

In all seriousness, Bracken was needed. He wouldn`t have let things fall apart.

Bangladesh deserve to retain their test status. And I am not saying that just cuz they won today. I agree with rabeed imam. I think you can't compare bangladesh with zim or kenya. In those countries, cricket is a recreation, but in bangladesh, it is damn near a religion. The current lot of cricketers grew up in bangladesh pre test status. but the future generation that is playing mohallah (neighborhood) cricket right now have only one thing in mind. they will not be happy with just playing cricket, they are growing up with ambitions of one day lifting the world cup trophy. ICC has to give bangladesh some time so this future generation can make their way into the international cricket. I really believe that the current cricketers of bangladesh is just keeping the seat warm for the next, more talented generation to come and take their rightful place.

Wow, I'm stunned. What a victory.

To be honest, I'm incredibly happy for Bangladesh and from an Australian point of view, I don't mind this loss either. It's the aftermarth of this sort of game which unites a side under pressure.

The experienced Aussies will have a look at themselves, figure out what they can improve on and go from there. Their experience will guide them. I'm not saying that Australia will come back with a thumping win over England and then dominate the rest of the tour, they're more likely to regain their feet with practise and then start winning the games (not always convincingly) they've always won. Watch out for Australia - they're still world champions, they're still one of the best ever sides and, in my opinion, still the favourites.

Batting is a struggle. Good spell by Rafique 10-0-31-0 but i wonder why Ponting didn't bowl first in conditions that were so helpful for bowling, he could have run through Bangladesh and the game would have done and dusted.
Are you so sure of that after what happened?

This match simply confirming what was already apparent: Brad Hogg is a very ordinary spinner. Bangladesh have by and large treated him with complete disdain, and rightfully so. More mixed-up fielding in the deep as I type.
And isn't it amazing that it took the Bangladesh attack to prove what I, and most of us have known for so long - Brad Hogg is useless.

Biggest ODI upset ever(if it comes off)?
We did lose to Canada in a World Cup match a fair while back (can't remember which one exactly). But this has to be competing with it for biggest upset of all time in ODI cricket.

this will go down as the most hilarious i have ever seen.....i mean EVER! how in the world bangladesh managed to come up with such a professional performance after being thrashed by england only 2 days ago i dont know. but i do know that they outbatted, out bowlers and out fielded australia. australia may have had the worser of the conditions to bat on, the ball moved off the seam for the first 15 overs, but surely thats no excuse for losing to bangladesh. for bangladesh, it was the best structured chase that i will probably ever see.
btw where is scallywag?
It can't be an excuse for losing if they won the toss and sent 'em in. :surprise:

Okay did some one notice McGrath almost brushing aside a Bangladesh player when he went to shake hands with him with a stare.

Also, it was disappointing to see Ponting not speak on Bangladesh on their historic moment. Also his field placings, not keeping a few more players in catching positions and putting men deep in the circle wasnt the greatest captaincy I have seen. It didnt start with 10 overs to go. It was from atleast 25 overs or so to go to finish the match around when I started watching the game seriously.

Also a commentator (cant remember who it was) summed it mid Bangladesh inning summed it perfectly when he said 'Australia are waiting for some thing to happen than do some thing themselves.'

Also, not as many Australian posters during the last 10-15 overs of the match which I see from the forum posts right now as English and other country posters which has more to do than the time difference I suspect.

Any way, those who did post, took it very well. Guys like slowlove, jono..
What annoyed me about the commentary (and we get the Sky feed on Fox) is that the commentators were all over Bashar for not having more attacking fieldsman when he had Australia 2-9, but when Bangladesh get a role on and the Aussies look pathetic nobody critisises Ponting. All the talk was about how the Bangladeshi batsman were too good (and they were), but that was the poorest excuse for captaincy I have ever seen - great job Ponting - where was the pressure?
