EDIT: Harmison then Jonesy. Both can swing it, connect and it's six or out....just how cricket should be. :p

Especially with Haddin going to subbed in so we bat down to 8 with specialist batsman, With this new system it looks like who ever wins the toss wins the game

224 win, this should be chased down by Australia in pretty good batting conditions. Good knock by Freddie & good 5 for by Lee, it think that might secure his place for the 1st Test.

Nice to see Harmy sweeping McGrath for a 4, but really 223 is at least 30 short on this pitch. There is a bit of bounce in it, so hopefully Harmy & Fred can exploit that.

That said I bet Jones (S) & Goughy still get the new ball.

Really good bowling from Lee & Kasprowicz at the beginning. Australia's effort in the field has been the best all series, should have got 2 run outs, but a much improved performance all the same. Gillespie's form is worrying. Will be interesting to see how the Pommie bowlers will go.

A few thoughts of someone who knows a bit about cricket

1. England's top order look to have performed about the same as Australia's, and a one-day international series has nothing to do with the Ashes

2. Any side thinking about playing 7 batsmen is a side chasing draws. Any side thinking about dropping Gillespie and replacing him with another batsman is in fact thinking about going in with 8 batsmen and not 7. They don't allow Supersubs in tests (ICC to pick that one up in 5....4....3....)

3. 33-5 wasn't 'game over' the other day. Plenty said it was, I said it wasn't. I was right. What a surprise. 'Should' means nothing in cricket.

:p
1. Sorry LE, whilst I agree that ODIs have little do to with Tests, identifying and capitalising on weaknesses is a touch different to giving away wickets as the Aus have done all summer..

2. Huh? Over in a particular match vs team lineup ....

3. Point taken.

Crap. Jones need to hit the 30s I reckon for England to be competitive. Why did he have to go for what sounds like a smear? Stick to your strengths my friend....
Poor comment.

Jones did far, far better than many else would have. If Freddie hadn't have gone fror broke against Brett, he would have continued to nurdle and only really attack the bad balls. When Flintoff went, he was basically forced into it for the last couple of overs.

I was actually screaming (mentally) at Flintoff not to take Brett on - I reckon he could have destroyed McGrath who was basically rubbish at the end - but that's not really his forte.

Lee was HOT today, the best I've seen him bowl at the death. For that matter, Ponting's captaincy was flawless too. To marshall his forces so well when one of his main bowlers seemed almost to be playing for the opposition was quite brilliant.

<Fred> Come on Jason - put it THERE
<Mullet> OK
<fred> Ta. And again, please
<Mullet> OK

That was posted after Freddie's dismissal and was aimed at him. Should have read "Jones needs to hit 30" which in my book he did.

Think that affects what you had to say. :)

Like I always say, what's sauce for the goose is most definitely sauce for the duck

<quack> grrr

Sorry, gander. How do you KNOW they have been 'throwing their wickets away'? Could it be that SW-H just happens to have inflicted a few 'mental scars' of his own, and your lads are either running scared of the big fellow or having their OWN techniques exposed?

Or are you too arrogant, too Australian to contemplate such a thing?

(have we got a 'playing devil's advocate' smiley?)

Nope.

Learn the hard lesson quickly - never say anything you might regret afterwards (or if you do, just don't tell anyone)

No, I just fancied making you think that I hadn't read your comment thoroughly enough and then related it to your previous one.

The aim was purely to get my post-count up by 1 - and to that effect you fell into my trap nicely.

Bwahahahahahaha.

<quack> Do you think he'll buy that?

Yup. PY's thicker than Scallywag.

<quack> Really?

Oh DD, you're so gullible

<quack> Hey, everyone - LE's a hypocrite. He's drinking .......

Don't...

<quack> He is......

Noooooooooooooo. My street-cred.....

<quack> Lager

MEXICAN lager - home-brewed

<quack> Does that make any difference?

Yes - this is good stuff.

<quack> Why the peg on the nose then?

LOL, that memorabilia parody with Squires, MacGill and O'Keefe just now was priceless....
Yeah, the scary thing is though, I wouldn't mind one. Imagine having one and someone visited that you didn't like came over and you could put on O'Keefe's laugh for 2 hours - they'd be sure to leave.
