MIGHT and might not, i guess the ball wasn't swinging atall the last time he played in sa!!
Wasn't he playing in the middle order last time though, thus not facing the new ball, thus less movement?

Further, the fact that he's got a good test hundred in SA, batting with slips other close in fielders may indicate that the swing doesnt trouble him much? Add to that the hundred in England, and the other good scores .... if I was to take a guess, I think that the test opener will not have much trouble with the swing in NZ or SA. Only time can tell for sure. Writing him off is stupid.
Agreed that writing him off is stupid, but so is comparing his tour last time (when he was in the middle order) to this next time (when he'll be opening)

Also, as stated by Rik, the swing in NZ is far more pronounced than in SA.

For following India for such passion and dedication for about 14 years, Ive seen it all happen before. India get into the grove where they seem like they can flourish to be the best side in the world and then they get shot down on a bouncy tracks in South Africa and Australia, so I still think India have a long time to go before they can become a world class side, Australia on the other hand are CLASS all over, they can play in any conditions and have superb bowling which is the ultimate key, and India do have unfortunately sub-standard bowling.
Our Win ratio this year is good, but last year was not good at all, so one good year doesnt neccessarily mean that we are the best or will win the WC, because the WC is in South Africa, we can get shot down pretty quickly.

Also India will tour Australia in November 2003, I suspect that India will learn a lot of harsh lessons about that tour unless they can really pull their socks up and show everyone how good they really can be.

If they have a reasonable bowling attack, how come they need to be chasing 300+ so often?
Was it essential to behave like complete clueless ? The matches are being played on dead tracks, and if you had not seen them or read about them, you could atleast have read the previous posts before comming up with such a senseless question!

2 favourites? That's a contradiction!

the s after "fav" makes them favourites, which is what Australia are, and quite rightly. [/quote]

Ever heard of joint favourites?? Like Brazil and Italy were suppose to be joint fav's for the previous soccer WC which Brazil won!

Oh sure, Indian batters fared very poorly away from home in England in onedayers!!
They didn't, but their bowlers certainly did.
That was totally needless, i never said that Indian bowling was their strength, only reffered to their batting. And better watch out for your own bowlers(those who aren't at hospital) , even your batters are down and out at the moment:frog:

How can one say that Australia and India are joint favorites?

its quite surprising, Australia are in a league of their own

First of all i was trying to tell Marc that two teams can start a tour as favs.Sacondarily, Aus are miles ahead of India as far as test cricket is concerned, but in onedayers, the gap is a very narrow.
You can differ with my opinion , but i have lots of confidence in Indian team!

I think some people simply can't accept that its possible that Australia wouldn't be able to defend the title.
I think there will be many surprises in the WC, even a team like NZ can knock out Australia, anything can happen!

Australia failed to win the traiangular tournament on their own back yard( rules were held responsible for it) later they failed to win the CT( conditions were said to be alien to the Aussies) and an Indoor series against Pak( it took place at an offseason). Its possible that Australia might lose their way to the WC final with one reason or the other.
They are beatenable, and to say that they are the sole favourites is simply not true.I for one believe that SA has a pretty good chance of winning the cup, India too is shaping up well and might surprise many crictics!

Well Australia will feel at home in South Africa and their conditions as they are very similar to Australian Conditions.

Mind you Australia destroyed the South Africans in their own backyard in the Tests and ODI's this year.

They were at home in the triangular series and in the indoor series yet they failed!! As for their series win over SA, well lemme tell you one thing, in the WC ,SA won't be the only team that Aussies will be facing.

I'm not saying that Australia can't make it,but they are beatenable and their performance in onedayer have not been exceptional lately!

India currently struggling to contain this West Indian blitz.

WI: 274/4 in 47 overs
Ajit Agarkar has been the pick of the bowlers taking 2/48

Kartik has been dissapointing.
