Every time they've been praised up in this thread, things have gone distinctively pear-shaped - it does appear to be a jinx!
Interesting , India managed to level the series 2-2 after they were down 2-0.Wonder where things have gone wrong. If you do believe in Jinx then its none other than England thats suffering from it(no jokes here), i mean every third player keep getting injured and England continue to get hammered by the oponents!

can't we predict as to who would be the fav's before anyone lands in SA? And why aren't they fav's for the cup??
Yes we can predict, and they aren't favourites for the cup because their bowling is weak, the conditions are far different from what they've experienced their recent success in, and there's also a team called Australia taking part. I've heard that they're not too bad!
Well thats your opinion and i respect that though i don't agree with it.India has a reasonable bowling attack(with khan in the squad) and they have a batting line up that can chase any total against any side.Infact they have been chasing 300+ quite regularly, i don't think many sides can do that.Australia is the defending champ and will start as fav's, but India in my opinion has as much chance(if not better) to win the cup!
On perfect batting pitches, at home, against a similerly poor bowling attack...

No i'm not.I have not been talking about SOLE fav, i have enetered "S" after fav indicating that there are two sides that will start as favourites!!

Oh sure, Indian batters fared very poorly away from home in England in onedayers!!

If anyone think that Indian batting is weak and can't score runs in SA then the guy can't be taken seriously!

Comming back to the original topic, it would be good to see a side batting first winning the match for a change. All along we have seen the side winning the toss electing to bat second and winning the match.

In this series there was not much difference b/w the two sides, indeed it was a close series.I was surprised to see the Windies batters performance, some people have been putting down the Windies team as no hopers for the WC, but i can say that they have a very solid batting line up that can give opponents a real hard time, unfortunately the same cannot be said about their bowling!

No your just saying that India are favorites for the World Cup when they are chasing 300+ and winning on flatbeds at home. I'm waiting for more challanging conditions. I never said they can't score runs in SA, actually yet again I have been accused of something I didn't even hint towards! PLEASE GET IT RIGHT!

Waiting for what?? India is not going to play in SA or Aus b/f the WC.In NZ even if they win the series it won't be given much credit as NZ aren't the bests of sides!!
When one has class players like Tendulkar/Gang/Laxman/Dravid in one's line up who has performed on all surfaces, then there is no reason to doubt. Also, Sehwag had a pretty good tour of SA, and i'm sure Kaif and Yuvraj are more than capable batters.

And please remember, if Indian batters are piling up runs on flat track, their bowlers are getting hammered on flat track too at the same time!!!On SA pitches, the bowlers won't go for so much runs, so in a way things will get even out in SA!

Errrm and opposition bowlers are going for the same ammount of runs and they are rated much lower than the Indian bowlers...so you should see that although the batsmen are piling up high scores, so are the WIndies. That means the pitches must influence the result. They may be piling up 300+ each game but they will get no where near on NZ Green Pitches. Also Sehwag might struggle, as the ball really swings over there.

Without Zaheer Khan, Indian attack has weakened considerably! So much so for your rating!

And they won't need to.Why? because the opponents won't be scoring 300+ runs on green top pitches!

MIGHT and might not, i guess the ball wasn't swinging atall the last time he played in sa!!

Maybe, but have you seen how much it swings in NZ? On the portable pitches when England played there you had to bat quickly incase you got an unplayable delivery...its not easy.

His Average in SA is not at all very good actually its just 24.37 so if it wasnt swinging in SA then NZ will be a killer for him

Re:

His ODI average in SA is 46.5
His test average in SA is 49.66 (overall 48.94, with series in India, England and SA).

I had some difficulty in figuring out exactly where you screwed up in getting that number you did.. it turned out to be Sehwag's away ODI average. Looks like you just ran to crickinfo, looked for away scores and posted here :D (BTW, I bet you didnt know that Sehwag has batted at no. 8 for India?) Anyhow, 24 odd is not a good average at all for an opener (irrespective of his high strike rate). But you'll note that his performance this year has been much better than that- it stands at 38.42 in 9 away matches this year.
I looked at his home records in this year and found he'd scored at 41.54 - not very much different.

So while there's some merit in saying that he may struggle abroad given his overall record, his recent scores suggest otherwise.

Further, the fact that he's got a good test hundred in SA, batting with slips other close in fielders may indicate that the swing doesnt trouble him much? Add to that the hundred in England, and the other good scores .... if I was to take a guess, I think that the test opener will not have much trouble with the swing in NZ or SA. Only time can tell for sure. Writing him off is stupid.

Young man, it was none other than you who had crossed all limits and called my statements stupid, and now you have the balls to point fingers at me! Better learn to behave yourself, and go through your own post in the same thread!
I called a comment stupid, and you complained about being insulted, before saying that's what you'd expect from someone who couldn't spell.

Looks to me like you're not blameless.

If they have a reasonable bowling attack, how come they need to be chasing 300+ so often?

And if thats ow you judge a side, then SA and Aus have no chance in the WC coz they were not even able to reach the final of the CT!!
The CT will have no bearing on the WC - completely different conditions.

2 favourites? That's a contradiction!

the s after "fav" makes them favourites, which is what Australia are, and quite rightly.

Apart from the No hopers part of that, you could very easily replace Windies with India in that paragraph.
