If you ask me, the best umpire these days is Simon Taufel, since he backs his decisions, is not afraid to give someone out leg-befor or caught-behind, doubtful as they may seem, and rarely uses the third umpire.
And he just made a huge ricket with a caught behind a few moments ago. It happens to them all.

A bit late (should have asked yesterday), but why isn't Powar playing? He's fully fit, he has been in action recently and is a much better batsman than Agarkar and Balaji. Besides, this pitch is very flat, with little for the seamers, except in the first 2 sessions of the first day.

OK.

However, Sunil Gavaskar disagrees with you on the Youhana one - he thinks it might have been an inside edge.

What's your take on the (ridiculous) appeal for caught behind off Inzy a few minutes ago?
to be honest with you the indians have a tendency to appeal for absolutely everything...i mean they go on appealing even though they know its not out. earlier in the day there was an appeal from kumble that pitched on off stump, was turning away and hit outside off stump. this was followed by a vociferous appeal from kumble who it appears has no clue about lbws and just goes up appealing for absolutely anything that hits the pad.reminds me of a certain ruchira perera in england.(runs before the millions of indian fans on this forum gets at him)

No wonder Butcher was complaining about his action.

How do you survive in Bangalore?

Anyway, Youhana gets 50, nothing special, since he was scratchy and far from convincing. The Indian bowlers and fielders deserve credit for that.

I don't like using the word 'ironic' because it can get a little cliched.

I'm tempted, though, regarding the furore which the turned down appeals against Youhana and Inzamam created.

To me, it's a classic case of 'what goes around'. They were the two batsmen who could consider themselves desperately unlucky to be dismissed in the first test.

There have been about 9-13 appeals for catches, or lbws since this session, and only one can really without a great degree of doubt be called out imo.

back in sharply after pitching in-line with the off stump, hits

Tv replays shows that it was plumb, Pathan unlucky - Youhana lucky

That first article is incredibly biased and the person makes some absurd statements. [btw Pakistan was also a bit unlucky with decisons in the ODIs, and the first test but no one payed much attention to that.]

Ah the Steve Bucknor controversy rears its ugly head again!

I really think one problem is that the ICC has so few test umpires. Now that only neutral umpires stand in for tests, I think it's unhealthy for the same few to rotate and be sent around the world. They'll get tired, and arguments like "Oh, this umpire hates us" is more likely to get used, and umpires necessarily referee the same teams over and over again. I'm sure there are more than enough people who want to be umpires, and it's not really all that hard either, so let's get on it ICC.

And yes, if computers were umpires then Inzamam and Youhana would long have been back in the pavilion, out instead of resting for another day of batting. But then they wouldn't have been out in the first test's first innings so easily either. So really, I can't complain.

I will say that I'm very disappointed with the Indian bowling. Perhaps they now realize you're not always going to bowl with a 600 run lead on the board.

Wrong decisions are a part of the game. It kind of puts me off sometimes coz I watch on TV and i can stilll pretty much correctly call a LBW decision. But I can accept it. So if Inzamam and Youhana are still there thats part of the game.

I agree with you that there should be more umpires on the panel. Simon Taufel, Bucknor and Sheppherd were also umpiring during the India-Australia series. In fact when there was a gap of a few days between the first and second India-Australia test matches, Bucknor went to Sri Lanka to call an England-Sri Lanka match. And then he was back for the third. ICC should stop over working these umpires. They should have 5 more umpires on the panel.

Bucknor has given some dodgy decisions against India of late. But this is only because he is a tired man!

why cant u just admit that it was a poor decision and should have been given out??

very marginal........the inzamam one was not out from the offset....the youhana one was a bit close....but again not out as gavaskar rightly pointed out.
and i am not trying to start a war of words again but both these batsmen were given terrible decisions in the last match....andno one was complaining then....and some shocking decisions were given in the odi's against pakistan

remember the inzi lbw off tendulkar in trhe 3rd odi and the youhana lbw in the last match......

every single article on the net was talking about how shocking the decisions in the 1st test match were(the ones given against inzi and youhana). no one posted those articles and i didnt post them because the decision was not gonna be changed.

so as far as posting articles regarding decisions is concerned ....bad idea.....

no umpire has anything agaianst any team.....it sometimes happens that a side appeals so often and on many occasions in situations that are clearly not out that it puts the umpire off....

and when inzi and youhana were given out in the last match no one came out and said that those umpires are favouring india and they want india to win and not paksitan....no one said that ....and why should they since we all know that it is not true...

umpires make some shocking decisions ....thats why i think that young umpires should be appointed since sight and hearing can be slightly depleted with age.

great innings by inzi....this guy has turned into a really great gladiator withthe bat since he has been given the captaincy.

he maybe short of a few tricks and short when it comes to ideas on the field ......but his form with the bat has really been magnificent.....well done inzi(mashaallah)

i missed the farhat innings......can anyone tell me how it was?
well done to this guy as well....he has a tremendous future ahead of him......

i am hoping for a youhana ton as well 2morrow....as he is my fav player.....

i was again impressed with patahn today.....kumble seemed to be off his game.

day 2 belonged to pakistan.

When they don't have a ton of runs to defend, the Indian bowling shows its lack of teeth again. Not that it was unexpected, it is still disappointing, to say the least. This test is now Pakistan's to lose. Good innings by Inzi! :(

Reading that it suggests to me that the ball was going down leg-side - if it pitches on off and swings in "sharply" then it's moving a long way IMO.

Parthiv Patel in trouble!

Parthiv Patel was reported to the match referee for excessive appealing. He also allegedly used foul language!

he deserves it

yes kumble really does not have any clue when it comes to lbw's, I mean come on he's a leg spinner who turns the ball by miles, so how can he appeal like that !!!

great day for pak, i wonder what their strategy will be tommorrow. I would atleast give my bowlers 100 overs to get IND out. But for sure result it IND loss or a draw.
