*Official* India in Australia Thread

What a turnaround from Australia. Going into the day India had the upper hand, and come the end of it Australia has stamped their mark on it. India must now be grateful that it rained for so long and that this is really only a day three pitch (or the situation might be worse).

Great debut for Bracken, too. The first innings wasn't that great but he's started the second innings displaying exactly the kind of performances he had in India that got him into this team.

amit,
u are seen very harsh on patel and asking more for Ratra. Did u forget that Ratra had/has poor keeping skills than Patels?

It's amazing that no one remembered the best wicket keeper batsman India had/had now...Nayan Mongia. The one and only prblm with him is/was he never dives for a catch and always expect the first slip to do the job for him. barring this, he can be both attcking and defensive to any sort of bowling.(he had scored a 150 against aus in delhi 4 yrs back).
But, he is a real victim of favourism. He was accused of having ill-character and making groups in team(just gossip). So, Captain doesn't like him. That's y he is not in the team.
Y should India train somebody(more clearly, Parthiv) by giving chance in the national team while others are waiting for chances with proven talent?Give patel chance to play in the state games and get matured, but not in the National team...
..bring back Nayan Mongia
ratra, is a much better keeper and a batsman than parthiv. i have said this. ratra, even hit a 100 against wi in wi, but hasnt got too many chances.

parthiv, cant even hit 4s, let alone 6s and he cant even bat as long to hit a test 50, let alone a test 100

He's only 18. He's being trained for much bigger things at the moment. He'll become a better batsman in time, he'll more than likely get stronger too and then you will eat your words, Amits.

Match Drawn,

Well played India, and im sure this game will give them a lot of confidence ahead of Adelaide. There are some weaknesses such as Nehra, but im sure Bruce Reid will work hard on that.

Well done to Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar, Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Nathan Bracken, Jason Gillespie and Stuart MacGill.

Now i am very sure that it would be a different series for india than even last time. India has also a small chance of winning it(may be 10%).
Last time around they were thrashedby australia in the Ist Test Match and that made there confidence bottom low for the rest of the series.
This time India's confidence has Rocketed sky high and that could make a lot of difference.

Well done India

One thing to be noted: India did it without Tendulkar.
benefit for the next test: Tendulkar will be due for a good score.
Dravid Played beautifuly in the second innings.

Yes, well I"m not sure how much a factor a missing Warne is when the opposition is India.

True Australia missed Mcgrath but Glenn is turning 34 in February. His body is starting to suffer more injuries of late and perhaps Australia need to get used to the idea of Mcgrath not being part of the bowling attack.

Australia certainly lacked the extra pace of Lee but it should also be noted that India have had their own injury problems.
A knee injury forced Javagal Srinath into premature retirement just before the tour and a shoulder injury ruled Salvi out of the tour -- which was unfortunate given that Salvi would have been a real chance of playing a test -- unlike Balaji (his replacement) or Irfan Pathan.

So India needs to be there for stopping Australia's run.
1) India stopped aus's continuous run of victories(15?).
2) Only India could snatch test series from aus.(last series in India)
3)Again, India needed to be there for holding aus in a draw out of the last 22 tests.
4)To score highest run in a day against aus, again India...
...beware Aus, ur terminator is on ur soil. ..don't take them lightly

I think rain had a major say in causing the match to be a draw. (566 minutes lost)

Still it was refreshing to see India take the fight to Australia and not be intimidated. They just need a couple of seamers to back up Zaheer Khan.

It was exciting cricket. The only bad thing for me was Hayden getting out for 99. Still he became the first batsman to score 1000 runs in a year for 3 consectutive years.

I will be glued to the set for the next 3 tests.

1st test - draw :!(

india, with just 199 runs to win in 23 overs, should have definitely tried for a win. 199 in 23 overs is gettable provided u have all 10 wickets intact.

but still, well played ganguly, zaheer and laxman. if at all there can be a winner in this match, it has certainly got to be, india.

the chances of india winning this series r far more than what even the indians think. india, atleast according to me r the overwhelming favs for the series.

i think, based on current form and performances, it will be a 2-1 win to india to be realistic. on an optimistic note, i believe it will be ind 3-0

dreaming about aus winning 3-0 is now wishful thinking. aus have lost a lot of confidence after this 1st test and as i said - "only rain can save australia"

Still haven't seen too much evidence that the series, ceteris paribus, will go any other way than too the Aussies with something to spare.

India can take somthing form this test thats for sure.

They did get the best of the conditions but the facts are they played extreamly well considering there recent form.

It's still unlikley IMO they will be able to take 20 wickets in a test against us but I am having my doubt's about our own attack at the moment. Bichel was shocking in this test.

Obviously rain had played some roles in the final result.,but remember ,irrespective of losing time ,Aus had won many tests and not ended in draw. So some extra effort from India was there. Let's see what happens when McGrath and Lee comes back. But i think, these Indian batting line up can manage those two, probably after an initial struggle. McGrath had been tamed by Sachin on many occasions(reverse also).
Nehra is not able to come back to his normal speed.(max 149.7km/hr).So give Pathan a chance and ofcourse, replace Sewag & Harbhajan by Ramesh & Kumble.
I hope aus cut Katich and bichel.(what happened to Kasperowics? He always caused prblm to India, even won a test )

I think the possible inclusion of Brett lee for the next test could be the difference between the sides...
India struggled against Gillespie and with Lees extra pace i think he will be very effective.
Bracken does perform much better with the new ball, and his stamina to last the 5 days must be a question but with Bichel struggling so badly i think he needed to shoulder more workload then would have hoped...

I still think the Aussies will win the series comfortably, and the fact that Eclipse brought up i don't think India can take 20 Australian wickets in a test...
