I know they will make a shot of it - it's un-Australian not to - but if India can pull it off then I think this will rank alongside the Australians' win in the West Indies as the end of an era. Who will take over the pre-eminent slot as World Number One?

Whoever can get a decent bowling attack together.

At present, the top tier of bowlers in the world is:

Gillespie
Shoaib
Pollock

And that is it.
I agree totally - what had set the Australians apart from the rest of the world was their great bowling attack, and let's face it, there are quite a few powerful batting lineups out there at this time. Things are pretty thin around the world, so far as great bowling goes, although let's not forget Murali.

If the Indians take Australia out this match, I can't help seeing it as the end of an era either. I guess the possibility exists that McGrath and Warne might come back and dominate, but it won't be too long before we're without them permanently either way.

Right now, I think the Pakistanis are probably the best contenders - Shoaib, Sami and Shabbir isn't a bad frontline, and Kaneria's not too bad either. And their bats are getting stronger all the time.

Whereas I agree that the second one looked plumb, your language leaves you open to utter contempt. The reason we have an obscenity filter is for the likes of you.

The number of overs available to bowl out a team is little significance next to the batting team's incentive.

If the batting team drops anchor and just stays there, there's little the bowling can do.
Yeah, but the Australian team never really does this. There's no doubt in my mind that, even with the follow-on imposed, that they would have tried to score quickly to try and force a win out of the situation for Waugh's final match.

Bucknor joins the party unless we bowl all the batsmen out i dont
see how we are going to win

What is ganguly doing!!! poor captaincy ponting has just come in

Australia in BIG trouble now - will they be able to adjust their play according to the situation for once in this series? So far, Ponting's been the only bat to be able to do this. If we've got any brains, we'll realise we can't get to this total today.

Kumble gets Hayden with a beauty and Langer commits suicide off Kartik. The openers are gone and there's no better time for the Indians to enforce some pressure then now. It's game on now boys.

Australia should forget about winning the game, its impossible. Martyn scares me, he won't last long. If another wkt falls by lunch, India may very well win this.

I disagree, if Australia win it'll be a win borne out from playing some sensational cricket.
There u r, even for such a sensational victory, they'd to wait for India's declaration (on both innings). If India hadn't declared at this score or if India had putup 550 for chasing, then where will come this sensational stuff?

Patel and Kartik might get a warning after the match for that ludicrous appeal for caught behind against Martyn (he was really nowhere near it). Is it just me, or has Steve Bucknor seemed really PO'd with the Indians over appealing and running on the wicket in this match?

Maybe that's why he didn't want to give Langer out... :O

Bucknor's just bitter that the entire world hated him for his decision regarding Tendulkar in Brisbane.

I think Patel appeals at every delivery that misses the bat, just like the Lankans and it gets quite annoying.

Anway Martyn sucks, he can hardly block the spinners - I think he should get the boot after this series, I'd rather have Darren Lehmann and Clarke over Martyn, he's no Mark Waugh.

It seems the Aussies practise batting against a baseball pitching machine, they can't even read a single Indian spinner. Australia will be lucky to score 250 runs today. Bring back Michael Bevan!!

Agreed, Liam. Just because someone makes a 'questionable' decision is no reason to insinuate bias.

For the record, the first shout against Langer was 'barely' leg stump and I would have been very surprised if anyone would have given it. The second one looked to be leg and middle, hitting the top part of middle and off - I think that Bucknor might be the first to admit that he got that one wrong. Thankfully, Langer threw his wicket away a few moments later.

That farcical appeal by Kartik just before lunch (where the batsman must have missed it by 3 inches) indicates to me just how much pressure umpires are placed under. As far as I am concerned, that makes it quits.
