I agree totally - what had set the Australians apart from the rest of the world was their great bowling attack, and let's face it, there are quite a few powerful batting lineups out there at this time. Things are pretty thin around the world, so far as great bowling goes, although let's not forget Murali.Neil Pickup said:I know they will make a shot of it - it's un-Australian not to - but if India can pull it off then I think this will rank alongside the Australians' win in the West Indies as the end of an era. Who will take over the pre-eminent slot as World Number One?
Whoever can get a decent bowling attack together.
At present, the top tier of bowlers in the world is:
Gillespie
Shoaib
Pollock
And that is it.
If the Indians take Australia out this match, I can't help seeing it as the end of an era either. I guess the possibility exists that McGrath and Warne might come back and dominate, but it won't be too long before we're without them permanently either way.
Right now, I think the Pakistanis are probably the best contenders - Shoaib, Sami and Shabbir isn't a bad frontline, and Kaneria's not too bad either. And their bats are getting stronger all the time.
