British players are generally poo abroad tho. Rush, Law & Greaves all lasted about as long as Walker did but I doubt many would argue that they aren't all greats of the game.
Yeah, i was thinking about Rush when i typed about Des Walker's year in Italy.

Are Ince and Platt pretty much the only two to really succeed abroad? McManaman was middling, scored in a Champions League final for RM but wasn't really first choice.

Steve Archibald won a championship in Spain, I think. Wilkins and Hateley did alright for Milan IIRC. Hateley, Waddle, Hoddle Steven all did well in France, not sure how good the french league is though. Souness did OK with Sampdoria, he was quality. Lambert Keegan, Mcinally in Germany too. John Charles was immense obviously.

Cascarino and Brady did well, but they're Irish. Even though Caz wasn't.

If, at any point, Boularouz threatens to break into the starting XI due to one injury, you know you have problems.
This being Netherlands' best defender, whose departure from Hamburg (along with Barbarez') has left them struggling at the bottom of the league after qualifying for the Champions League?

Not that much worse than Nemanja Vidic, surely...

Didn't Waddle actually win the Euro Cup with Marseille in about 91/92?

Boularouz has been god-awful ever since he signed for them. One look at the Chelsea forums tells you what they think of him.

GeraintIMH is obviously nowhere near a comp or he'd have pointed out that John Aldridge was the top scorer in La Liga for one of the seasons he spent with Sociedad by now. ;)

Think Gary Loinacre (© Mick Channon during the 1986 World Cup coverage) was a minor success at Barca too. Might've won the CWC whilst he was there, IIRC.

Nah, they got in the final I think, and he was second in the Europeanplayer of the year vote IIRC that year.

Graham Taylor still didn't think he was good enough for a spot in the England squad mind, Tony Daley and Andy Sinton were clearly better8-)

Rather backhanded comment from Arsene Wenger saying that if we had played the dreck that visiting teams have employed at the Emirates this season then will would have come away with a draw ala Villa. Praised the way we played but I couldn’t flying fart TBH, doubtlessly Mr. Wenger would love every Mickey Mouse team to roll up and try and out score one of the most free flowing teams in European football. But you don’t beat sides like Arsenal by trying to outplay them, Bolton have showed the way and we illustrated last season like Olivia Newton John said get physical and Arsenal are half the team they esteem to be.

Unfortunately that’s not the way Rovers are currently playing, Hughes had this problem come the end with Wales where his hard work, borderline intimidation ethos was replaced by a free spirit style of football, where shape means sweet FA. I said it before this season that we are in dire straits as a club and that unless the bully boy tactics return we are constantly going to lose (or players of superior technical ability are signed).

Its fine for Arsenal to play wondrous football and most teams in La Liga not matter how ****e their predicament do play nice football but when you have players such as Robbie Savage, Gamst Pedersen, Michael Gray, Aaron Mokoena, Lucas Neill…in the side trying to play the beautiful becomes rather pointless.

Good game however, really enjoyed it, Arsenal are treat to watch and if it wasn’t for my boys getting violated so badly then it would have been a nice thirty odd quid well spent. Think that we be my last visit to watch Rovers for a while, back to the Den for the time being.

YES!!~ ROBBEN!!!!!!!!!

That late strike saved me a **** load of money. **** I was almost about to cry when Wigan equalised.

Everytime I bet on a Chelsea game, whether for or against them, they score late to either save my ass (eg. now) or screw me over (Chelsea vs. Barcelona and Chelsea vs. Everton).

Ridiculous football team.

Well, I'd rather Chelsea had hammered them rather than get my hopes up only to win at the last second.

I dislike Robben intensely atm.

Well at least Chelsea won, keep the pressure on Man U, we can't have that **** team winning the title can we?

Don't worry - I predict that the wheels will fall off sometime in the spring.

Ince did ok, nothing special. Moratti was a huge fan however but Paul's wife pretty much put an end to any ambitions he had of making a real name for himself in Serie A. Platt for sheer longevity would probably be seen as a success, really did not set anything a light until his performances with Samp, he failed with the Old Lady but unlike Des Walker (LOL) had a pretty good time in Genoa.

I'm supremely angry with Leighton Baines atm. If you're going to tackle Robben make sure he goes down not just stick a leg out in hope. Man! Oh well. Come on Villa!!Good game though in the end, Wigan can consider themselves extremely unlucky.

Or extremely lucky that Chelsea, not for the first time lately, played **** after going 2 up.

Still, you have to take advantage, and, for the most part, they did OK.
