King really shouldnt be above Parker though, King is a sluggish player and i thought was very poor in defence against Liverpool last week. Plus he cant pass and England dont need a specialist holding player against the level of opposition they will be facing. Parker is a far superior player to King.
And in that case Carrick is far superior to Parker then.

Hargreaves aside we don't really have a defensive midfielder who's up to it, which is why defenders like Ledley & Neville jnr are considered for the role.
To be fair, isn't Phil actually playing that role for Everton nowadays?

Again, how is Reo-Coker rated? I'm really surprised he hasn't been seriously talked about alot as every time I watch him play he's impressed me, even in losing Villa causes.
He was certainly in Sven's thinking at one point 'cos he was in our back-up squad for the WC. Solid sort of player, maybe lacking a bit of stature tho. He'll play for England eventually.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'd still say he's a defender by trade really tho.

That said he'd be my pick to replace Hargreaves, but probably not McClaren's.

Right colour, wrong team :)
Oh god yes, he's only the captain of the Hammers afterall :D

But yes it was the colour that threw me off as I was too lazy to think about what I was writing

Yeah he's almost like a clone of SWP in stature but I think he's got a fair bit of muscle too him, wins alot of 50/50's. But yeah I'm fairly sure he'll be England's answer in a couple of years, certainly very mature and calm for his age.

Neville's the ideal fill in for Hargreaves though currently. I never thought I'd say that but he's been nothing but impressive for the Toffees. He and Carsley have been instrumental for Everton who have been able to dominate the midfield in alot of games. They've been the reasons Arteta's having such a good season IMO. He doesn't have as much defending to do as Neville normally covers alot of that right hand side.

It'd be a shame if we had no team in our national sport at the biggest event to be held in the country for 46 years though, wouldn't it?

In other news Carlisle our top as things stand

Meh. Really not arsed about Olympic football. It's all about the athletics for me.

Although whether my not being arsedness is due to our non-participation is probably open to debate.

Agree, on both points to be honest, but still, if we're hosting the Olympics, and there's gonna be Football, well, we have to have a team!

1-0. to the mighty Grecians.:D

I may have before inferred that Paul Buckle was a useless waste of space who was crap in his first spell with City in the 50s, and wasn't likely to be much better now hes 83*, but I take it back hes clearly a goalscoring god.

* some exageration may be involved there.

I tipped Charlton to go down with Sheff U and Watford but I just had a look at Charlton's results so far this year.

They've lost to Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Portsmouth, West Ham, Villa and defeated Bolton. Maybe a little early for panic stations and disposing of Dowie.

interesting results today, Chelsea could have scored a few more goals but Villa continue to impress.

Arsenal good win, Van P second goals sounds good, got to see the replay of it.

Liverpool 3 away defeats in a row, haha good stuff and what did Joey Barton do again hahaha

Looking at some of the England fridge players i.e Barry, Nolan, Pennant all had solid games.
