Burkina Faso very stiff to miss out...

(can't believe it took 8 hours for someone to cotton onto the greatest country on Earth sneaking a mention...)

A side likely to challenge for the World Cup - ie the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain...
So if England have a bad tournament and don't get anywhere near the semi-finals would England count as not being quality or any other team?

Just thinking, since Fernando Morientes has been sold to Valencia for an undisclosed fee, does that mean now that it is a good chance Jermain Defoe will be his replacement, and why didn't Arsenal sell Robert Pires in January or beforehand so he doesn't leave on a free transfer like he has done now, if he was never going to sign the one year deal Arsenal were only going to offee, why not get rid of him beforehand so you get at least a bit of money from him? Madness IMO.

So with Pires gone I would expect Arsenal to line-up like this:

----------------------------------- Lehmann -----------------------------------------------------

--------- Lauren -------- Toure ---------- Campbell ----------- A. Cole ---------------------

------ Ljungberg -------- Fabregas -------- Flamini ---------- Reyes ------------------------

---------------------------------------------- Rosicky ----------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------- Henry ---------------------------------------------

That's providing the rumours about Sol Campbell's departure are just that, and I am thinking Lauren would get in ahead of Eboue, but it wouldn't surprise me if is the other a way around. And of course you can swap Gilberto Silva for Flamini if you like (and when Cole gets injured Flamini can replace him at left back).

Can anybody do better?

So there I was, at home, just minding my own business when the phone rang.

The name won't mean anything to any of you, but the caller was Peter Marples, one of the new directors at Derby County.

Many of you know the history, of course - how we were being shafted by a bunch of 'Business Consultants' who had invested £3 and withdrew something like £20,000,000 (THAT's what you call an investment) - when eventually the bank pulled the rug out from under the 'Amigos' and forced the sale of the club to the 'League of Gentlemen', half a dozen local entrepreneurs who were all lifelong Rams fans (including Mr Marples).

Anyway...

The reason for the call? To personally thank me for buying a season ticket for next season and to just have a friendly chat for a few minutes.

Now I didn't expect that kind of treatment - not for all the tea in China. I'm still a little stunned now.

Yes, because Argentina didn't make it out of the Group last time round, but that didn't change their standing.

Hmm so I see that Andriy Shevchenko has announced he will be leaving Milan, so that means he and Crespo will be used in a swap deal since Crespo want's to go back there.

How cool is that. You and the 14 other people he rang must've been overjoyed.

Jolly good.

Bloody hell. That'd never happen at Tranmere. Quality.

Chelsea sign Salomon Kalou from Feyenoord.

Goodbye SWP, this lad has just taken away any chance you ever had at a regular Chelsea spot. The kid is an awesome talent.

If, as expected, they get Shevchenko to go with Ballack and Kalou, then....well, it's going to be a very boring season for non-Chelsea fans. Again.

Similar has been said about a few players in the past though...

And can anyone explain how he qualifies for a work permit?

Fair point actually, given he's never played for The Ivory Coast & was refused Dutch citizenship.

Does The Ivory Coast have a trade agreement with the EU a la South Africa?

Don't think so.

It'll be another Howard, mark my words.

(ie the big club gets the permit on some obscure and unlikely technicality - Howard's was because he was due to be marry a Bulgarian and Bulgaria were supposed to be made members of the EU in 2007 - which incidentally they're now not...)
