You think a trophyless season is a very good season? fair enough 8-)
Hopefully in time football will move away from this unhealthy situation where the entire game is completely dominated by a handful of clubs, each looking at a season where they 'just' win one trophy as one of failure.

Pothas - if you don't win the play-offs, it is a trauma that will haunt you the rest of your life, finishing third and seeing a team who finished below you go up, when you know you are a betetr side is heartbreaking. I wish you luck.

Meanwhile, the mighty whites are hunting a new manager. My money is on McAteer, but if Martin O'Neill fancies it, well he's more than welcome

Been there, done that (and to semi-local rivals too - Fester).

You get over it within a century or two.

Completely agree with that. I think Man Utd had a pretty good season. As for people thinking that nobody is up to the chase for Chelsea next season, keep in mind that Chelsea lost to Liverpool in an FA Cup semi. If they had lost to Liverpool in their league games, Liverpool would have won the league. Chelsea definitely aren't undefeatable and I think that if Liverpool are able to keep scoring next season like they were in their recent games, if Man Utd don't have such a horrible time with injuries and if Arsenal can be inspired by a possible European success... well, it will definitely be open game. Chelsea are definitely favourites but I would say they're not even close to invincible. I think the next season is shaping up to be a great one.

Regarding RvN, Ruud has to and will go, not because of Ferguson but because of himself. Saha is in the form of his life and for Ruud to get upset at not playing games during the latter half of the season - and in those he did play he was certainly not looking as good as Saha... well, I think Ruud can't handle not being the best. Spat the dummy for sure. I think Rossi will be great once he gets a few goals and settles, although he needs to work a bit on his passing (although that was just one game, the previous non-league games I've watched him in he was fine), so it's not like we're empty outside of Rooney and Saha. I'd expect Fergie to bring in another striker for Ruud nonetheless, although I won't guess at who, nor will I guess at which midfielders we'll end up with.

Thing is though - is that when Chelsea actually bothered putting their best midfielders on, Chelsea dominated the game (basically the entire second half) to the point where Joe Cole really should have scored.

Chelsea aren't invincible though, as shown by the defeats at Middlesborough and Fulham, but they also beat Man Utd. 3-0.

Unless you're Wenger that is - I believe he's made a profit on transfers in his time in charge.
Unless you have his team of scouts you mean and they don't exactly look like winning the Premiership again anytime soon.

Those team of scouts which found a midfielder at Juventus who when put up front for Arsenal did rather well 8-)

Must have been a lucky buy then because he wasn't doing so hot there.

That really is harsh by the FA with regards to Tottenham's game against West Ham. Ten first team players with food poisoning and you can't postpone the game? Must have been an Arsenal supporter who made that decision.

A line up of Rooney, Saha, Solskjaer and Rossi is pretty good. Ideally one would someone with the presence of Drogba but who can finish to complement those players, especially if Rooney doesn't play.

Wasn't Vieira also a pretty average player for Milan and then he went to Arsenal and became one of the best midfielders in Europe?
The Arsenal scouts seem to know what they're doing.

But he didn't. A lot of players should have scored in a lot of games throughout the season, but almost-scored goals mean absolutely nothing. I'm sure Man Utd would have won more games if they kept their almost-scored goals a little more on target, but that's like saying "Oh, that team only won because of a poor LBW decision." Even if Cole scored, they wouldn't have won unless they scored again, after all.

Man Utd also beat them, too. Man Utd didn't lose any more games than Chelsea did this season - it was the fact that Chelsea didn't suffer as many draws that kept Man Utd down.

Chelsea only lost as many as they did because they slacked off near the end.

I think next season anything could happen if Manure and Liverpool get off to good starts... World Cup and injuries will play a big part in that. CDMs will be hoping for 4th again because they struggle to score against the resilient sides - they'll make up for it to an extent against soft opposition as usual, but you need more than just a strong defense and a flat track bully to win the Premiership.

Chelsea seemed to slack off a bit in the new year and idled their way to the title - whereas as usual Man. Utd. launching into an impressive run after Christmas. If they'd had a decent start to the season they could have won it.

Don't you mean *cough*food poisoning*cough*?

There's a reason why teams all kick off their final game of the season at the same time.

Can you guess what it is?

That's all a bit First-Chance-Averageish to me.

Top work - suggest it to the FA.
