And retired.
But a final hurrah from Shearer by playing a World Cup! Sounds a bit too Roy of the Rovers tbh.

With Rooney injured though - he'd surely be the best replacement even though he's 36.

Toni and Inzaghi are hardly world class.
As in his whole career to date and not counting this season's goal scoring form or do you consider him bit of a one season wonder to date? 28 goals is a brilliant effort - another player supposed to be going to Inter.

As for Adriano I think he lost it when his missus left him because she didn't like Milan and went back to Rio and then when he arrived back from Brazil late after trying to win her back and Veron blew up about it in the press.

interesting to see the FA come out and say he was the man they wanted for the job all along, what a load of crap.
Indeed, he was at least fourth choice after Hiddink, O'Neill and Scolari IMO. O'Neill was never going to get it after honestly answering the Beckham question, namely will you keep Becks as captain as he earns the FA millions, O'Neill said no I'll choose the team and skipper on merit, the FA didn't like it. To be fair the press seemed to bugger it up with Scolari although I'm sure eventually he'd have said no the the golden balls question himself.

But yes, amateur commiteeing has ensured that we miss out on the best, McClaren being the best English option I suppose like Taylor was. I agree with some others that he's a world class coach but his record at 'Boro with the money he's had is pretty moribund.

Good luck to him, he'll need it.

Well when you consider what the other managers have achieved then you can make your own judgement. Really apart from winning the League Cup or the FA Cup (I know he hasn't won the FA Cup) and getting a mid-table or top half finish, as well as getting them into Europe what more could expected to do with Middlesborough? True he has had money but being thruthfull, did anybody expect him to win the Premiership or qualify for the Champions League?

Still he has a chance of winning the UEFA Cup, and will that change his record entirely if he wins it?

Mclaren isnt really an inspirational choice but i think he will do a solid job.
His one big failing has been wheeling and dealing in the transfer market.

Luckily, that is not required.

He is a quite unbelievably good coach though - witness DCFC's rise to mid-table in the premiership in the 1990's, and the amazing run that Man Utd had when he was there.

And then there's what he has achieved at Boro - more than anyone in their history. Tactically brilliant, all England will want now is a top No 2 for the motivation side - and there my choice would be....

Stuart Pearce*.

A match made in heaven (aka the East Midlands)

I'm sure you'd find a post somewhere in which I suggest that exact thing if you trawled back through this thread. I really can't see there being anyone better for the motivational side of things than Psycho. He'd just scare the crap out of them so they played well. :D

That was hilarious, the Forest boys scoring for us. Took the goals well didn't they.
I have a new desktop background on my office PC - naturally, it's Pearce in the Rams shirt.

Yes, I DO work in Nottingham ;)

A shame no-one got a really good one of Psycho kissing the badge - it was just a mobile phone piccy. Still, it's been sent around a few people.

Incidentally, do you post on RamZone? I thought I recognised the style.

Pearce has said he doesn't want to be involved at this stage, because the City job takes up enough of his time as it is.

Egotistical prima-donna is what I think of Tevez - otherwise he goes alright.

Would fit in at Real Madrid.

Brentford have to settle for the play offs which i am not at all confident about

Congratualations to Southend and Colchester for promotion from league 1
Congratulations to Carlisle, Northampton and Leyton Orient for promotion from league 2

Boooo to Leyton Orient, the Mighty Mariners were 1-0 up (and LO were 2-2 against Oxford) against Northampton in the 93th minute and conceded a goal with the last kick of the match to deny automatic promotion to us.

Absolutely gutted. :(

We'll forget Orient scored in the last minute too so result didn't matter as it ruins the story.

I should like to record a few words of sympathy to all the Nottingham Forest fans so cruelly robbed of seeing their side in the playoffs today by a quite magnificent performance by Derbyshire's 'other' club Chesterfield. These fine lads served their county proud as they reserved their best until the last day of the season and promptly lay down at Saltergate and allowed Swansea to walk all over them to the tune of a 4-0 away win to secure sixth place.

Did I say sympathy? Sorry, I meant total roflarity, mirth and general guffawing.

Gah. For a moment there I thought only three teams went down from Division 2. In which case Hartlepool's draw would have been crucial in sending Franchise FC down.
What was crucial was Rotherham's draw that kept them up and sent FFC down.
