Yea but if they were changing the lightbulb they would be in need of a light source and so there would not be a discernable shadow...

So you must be happy that Martin Jol has a policy of recruiting English players, especially when he almost has enough to field and entire line-up of them, and without being token players - ie good enough to start and do a good job.

He's never happy about anything.

Can't you see that by picking them, Jol is just tiring them out for the World Cup?
Craig said:
I'm kind of hoping that France to make the semi final or the final and get a team like Brazil or Italy in there and does well (ie at least two or three goals) and his reaction would be priceless.

Probably be: "Cafu and Roberto Carlos should move be in their (football) retirement homes" or for Italy it is "Cannavaro and Nesta are over 30 so therefore are past it, (insert right back likely to be Bonera) is hopeless" etc.

You mean in the exact same way that he's making excuses for Arsenal being in the CL final?
Craig said:
Yes.

And it will be how many shots he has missed.

Anyone establish some sort of link between my post and these replies? No? Me neither.

Still If you ever see a Warwickshire fan, foaming at the mouth, trying to argue with people who're 300 yards away getting a beer you'll know who it is...

Glenn Roeder has indeed done a terrific job, cant find a problem in picking an underqualified manager. Maybe they should give him a co coach position.

I can't see a link between those posts and your reply.....

Eyes not spreadsheets
Our posts followed a logical pattern:

Spurs -> English players at Spurs -> World Cup -> France at the World Cup -> Possible French success at World Cup -> Scaly's excuses because he cannot acknowledge the brilliance of Henry.

Yea but you're not very bright, right now we've gone back to the light bulb thing I'll let you all find my completely damning evidence of chief poseur's failings that rabid Warwickshire fan has yet to refute in any shape or form.

Says the person who fails to recognise that Thierry Henry is even remotely good...
It's all relative, he's a good club footballer but when it comes to that top level of football - some internationals and against the best clubs in europe - he'd be one of the players that fills up one of the last spaces left on the team sheet.

McClaren just named as England manager.

If he was English though you wouldn't hesitate to put him in the gap up front that's there now....
(Unless you went for the 4-5-1 option of course because of the Gerrard, Lampard thing)

I most certainly would hesitate, because there would be poor balance, just like with most of the players who could play up front with Owen so you'd still end up getting nowhere against organised international sides (ie virtually every team you'll be up against).

And before anyone asks yes I'd have Owen in ahead of chief poseur in a World Cup

Henry or Crouch, Defoe, Vassell, Bent, Johnson, Sheringham etc.

He's easily the best out of them.

It's not about who's best individually, it's about which pair up front would give you the best chance.

It's not like Owen really balances that well with any of the others though - so you'd go for a natural goalscorer to partner him surely.

He'd balance ok with Crouch - sort of a Niall Quinn-Kevin Phillips setup. Owen-Sheringham used to work pretty well, too...

I just don't think Crouch is good enough to be an international footballer.....Sheringham's had an alright season but if Sven picked a 40 year old he'd get slated. Or someone could convince Shearer somehow...except he's injured 8-)

Anyone who would hesitate not to put Henry in a World Eleven let alone the England team is a grade A loon. Also what’s your criteria of a good European side, obliviously it’s not Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Roma…

Well I did call it last week. ;)
I beat you by about 7 years then. When he was TBE's right-hand man at Derby and before he went to become Sir Alec's No 2 at Old Trafford, it was quite obvious that he was an incredibly astute coach.

As far as the 'you read it here first' CW championship goes, though, honours are as follows:

1. 24/01/2006, Tom Halsey Hope it's Curbishley, will probably be Allardyce or McClaren though.

You're a good second, though - after writing off his and Boro's chances an hour before. ;)

interesting to see the FA come out and say he was the man they wanted for the job all along, what a load of crap.
