almunia is very good in a penalty shootout though, mind you lehmann has shown that hes no slouch when it comes to those affairs either.

Just wondering about Wayne Rooney, if England pick him for the WC squad on the basis he will be fit when the second round comes by (assuming England hasn't made a horlick of a process in trying to do so and don't make it) or at the best the later part of the group stages, but breaksdown in training and is ruled out for the rest of the tournament, would the rule be the same in cricket, whereas England took him into the tournament with an injury and therefore if he suffered a relapse of his injury, England would not be allowed to pick a replacement player (assuming they take four strikers) whereas if he went the World Cup injury free?

The reference to cricket I'm making is if a player goes into a Test/ODI with an injury and breaksdown while batting/or in the field he isn't allowed a runner because they went into the match injured.

Picking an injured Rooney now would probably send the wrong message to everyone - as in "We've little chance with him, but we've no chance without him".

Well Feruson reckons it is a wild dream to think he will be fit for the second round, but owing to the fact he has little concern to what happens to England and he is his club manager he would say that.

So if Rooney is out it would be:

Owen
Defoe
Crouch
Bent

Or is/was Bent a token selection?

Doesn't everyone know that already?

TBF Fergie's only concern is Rooney being fit for the start of 2006/07. Most of us wouldn't give a rat's bum if he injured himself whilst leading us to victory in the final & was out 'til Xmas.

Bent's been in pretty decent form, but the Uruguay game was a pretty sobering experience for him. Looked out of his depth. Coupled with that Defoe has been in pretty ordinary form for them of late.

Only other realistic options are Ashton & Vassell.

Bring back Robbie Fowler :p

(Actually he has done an ok job for Liverpool IMO. Well enough to get a new contract with them at least)

Norwood's on Fire
Yes he is, but apparently he slated Sven in his book. Sven wouldn't pick him if he had scored 40 goals LOL

A football related joke

How many Spurs fans does it take to change a lightbulb?
Both of them

:D
The alternative punchline:

None, they're all happy living in Arsenal's shadow. :p

Yea but if they were changing the lightbulb they would be in need of a light source and so there would not be a discernable shadow...

Newcaslte have made the request to the FA that Glenn Roeder be able to take the Newacaslte job full time despite not having the Uefa pro licence or whatever it be called. I expect this will be granted and congratualations to him he has earned the job. Hopefully he can get Newcastle top 6 next season.

So you must be happy that Martin Jol has a policy of recruiting English players, especially when he almost has enough to field and entire line-up of them, and without being token players - ie good enough to start and do a good job.

He's never happy about anything.

Can't you see that by picking them, Jol is just tiring them out for the World Cup?

I'm kind of hoping that France to make the semi final or the final and get a team like Brazil or Italy in there and does well (ie at least two or three goals) and his reaction would be priceless.

Probably be: "Cafu and Roberto Carlos should move be in their (football) retirement homes" or for Italy it is "Cannavaro and Nesta are over 30 so therefore are past it, (insert right back likely to be Bonera) is hopeless" etc.
