In other news, the press of the world continue to try to achieve the impossible: Linking Man Utd with every midfielder in Europe. The latest target for Fergie is apparently one Joe Cole. I've lost count of just how many have been linked now.
I'm not particularly complaining, we drastically need a midfield. We seem to have the defence sorted for the moment (though I still don't like Fredinand, wish Brown was playing) and the attack is obviously firing well, if we get a midfield in time for next season I fancy our chances to be up there.

Oh, I agree. I just find it amusing that we've been linked with no less than 20, probably more like around 40 midfielders now. I think what the press may as well say is "We've given up. We don't know who Man Utd are looking for. Or maybe they really are looking for everyone. We just don't know anymore. We tried, we speculated, we ain't got crap."

I'd be amused if one of the papers actually wrote an article with just "[insert midfielder here]" and "[insert team here]" and printed it like that.

Yeah, but I do think there is some truth in some of the articles. Obviously we're not going to be buying now due to the window, but we will in the summer.

We obviously need a midfield, and I think we may buy big. Ballack and Cole would be very nice if we get them.

Good match that. Can't wait till April 29.
damn right, once we beat sunderland, middlesborough & the spurs & hopefully chelsea could drop some points either againts Bolton & Everton. That will be a cracker of a match. I would do anything to go down to the bridge to see that clash.

I think it's obvious enough that we're going to buy new players in. But I think the press are just stabbing in the dark and just hoping one of their 50-odd stories are correct. It will definitely be interesting to find out who they do bring in.

By the way, Tom, you missed a couple of questions at the end of the last page.

Sorry, what does "poking up" mean?

And do you mean you hope he resigns at the end of this season, or just some day in the far off future?
Poking up = putting up. Ie, Glazer won't put up with a flop end of the season and Fergie may well be sacked.

I hope Ferguson resigns at the end of this season (won't happen). Because he's past it, but he's such a legend that he doesn't deserve to be sacked.

I personally don't think he's past it at all. Even if he's not at his peak, I certainly don't think that anyone else is better for the position.

There are several better managers around.

bad news for Young, he may not go to the WC, damn
I don't think he'd have gone anyway. Carragher'll go as the fifth centre-back and the second right-back, plus the third left-back, and something like the 7th defensive midfielder. :p

Just been watching SSN & Curbishley seems to think Young might even be back playing for Charlton before the end of the season.

FWIW I think Young was nailed on if fit. Carragher will go as 4th Centre-half with Ledley as the utility.

Mourinho and Wenger, Benitez, even Jol is arguably doing a better job than he'd do.
Jol is better than Ferguson is now.

Wenger is arguable, he inherited a good team and fair enough he turned them briefly into a great one, but he's not advanced them too much, nothing in the CL bar this season either. He doesn't help his case by being a complete and utter **** too.

Mourinho is undoubtedly an extremely good manager, but I base that on what he did with Porto rather than Chelsea. Mourinho has wasted quite a lot of money, and has succeeded partially on Ranieri's buys and partially on the amount of money they have.

Benitez is again a good manager, but he's done nothing with Liverpool apart from the CL (and fair play to him for that, but I think it was a one-off), they've not advanced in the Premiership, he did a good job with Valencia though.

I do think there are several better, but I'd have chosen a different several.

And it should also be said that Ferguson at his peak was better than any of those at their peak.

Wenger isn't arguable. How many seasons has it took him to twig that his dirty cheating big girls blouses are too soft? Combine this with how they've managed to massively under-achieve (watch now as marc lists a deluge of seconds and thirds).

Very good scouting team, but Wenger is nothing special as a manager.

Benitez and Mourinho are arguably better than Ferguson because they've won the CL.

Yes I agree that Wenger is over-rated, but Ferguson isn't very good either now, so I'd say he's arguably better than Ferguson. I'd have them pretty similar.

I was comparing them over their career generally. Wenger's trophy count does not impress.

Yes, I agree, I'd definately have Ferguson over Wenger over their whole career.

Ferguson is the best manger currently managing in the Premiership if we're taking into account whole career.
