"Barcelona are ready to make a £30m move to tempt Frank Lampard away from Chelsea if Michael Ballack moves to Stamford Bridge. (Express, Mail)"

Looks like they may indeed be really keen!

I've conceded that money got them out of the lower divisions (League 1 and below I'm talking here).

But it didn't get them out of the Championship, and I've seen no evidence to the contrary.
So how did they even get into the Championship then?

Without the money they wouldn't even have been there.

And when in the Championship they did spend a heck of a lot more money than is usual at that level.

Without the money they might not have been, no. But they did incredibly well to get out of the Championship. And not giving them any credit for that is being very harsh.

And as for your second point, no they didn't. They bout more players due to selling others to find the transfers - and out of their starting 11 in the Carling Cup, the two most expensive players were bought post-Championship, and all the rest weren't too much even by Championship standards, save Roberts.

They would not have been where they got with the money, there's no "might" about it.

And £5m net spend in 4 seasons is huge by Championship standards (especially on top of a new stadium)

He's suing two tabloids over how they published articles linking him to a "gay orgy" :p

EDIT: Beaten to it. Man, anyone who has a girl like he has can't be gay.

Please. Why should I care about average players of an inferior sport? :p

A southerner especially. Not a surprise that it was rumours about homosexuality, then.

I like the way they talk of "a downmarket Sunday newspaper" and "a downmarket daily tabloid"

And about his "annus horribilis"
With all the talk about the ***uality of footballers, I'm surprised that the phrase "Anus horribilis" hasn't crept in yet.
