Meh there was a short period where Raul was one of the ten best footy players on earth... he aint close now.

For forwards better than Raul... without thinking the following are easy:

Shevchenko
Henry
Eto'o
Rooney
Van Nistlerooy
Adriano
Makaay
Ronaldo
Drogba
Del Piero

That is, of course, off the top of my head. Once great, but not one of the best today.
Del Piero?! He's hardly first choice there, let alone should he be in the top 10.

Think there are two starting strikers ahead of him at Juve are better then him, and a fellow called Luca Toni (especially if he does it in Germany) who has been outscoring all his peers in Serie A.

Agreed about Makaay - vastly under-rated.

One thing about diving, people who dive are branded 'cheats' etc. but what if a player dived and a penalty/free kick which resulted in your team winning promotion/the league/a cup etc. would you complain? Of course not.

I'm against divers as most people are, but doesn't it make it hypocritical?

Owen was in front of Crouch, so that's a nonsense for a start.
they both went for the same ball and Owen got it....
Crouch is so so average though....he's not the worst...but surely England could play someone better....vassell, defoe, johnson etc. (that's off the top of my head, i might have made a glaring omission)

Yes because Owen was IN FRONT of Crouch.

select 7.

You don't seem to grasp the concept of attacks in football. You will not beat organised teams playing two shorthouses up front. Height is just as priceless as pace is in international football, a balance of the two in the forward line is ideal. No matter how well organised a defense is you still can't stop Crouch from winning the ball in the air, this then brings players like Owen into the game.

What you say is true, but it's perfectly easy for a team to prevent the opposition from getting enough time to pick out their big man up front, just like it's perfectly easy for a team to defend against pace by defending deep. What England need to do is find the balance, and the Rooney-Owen partnership lets them do that. We have a style of play that is difficult to defend against, because if you defend deep to counter Owen's pace, you end up either giving Rooney space to roam or sacrificing all your attacking intent.

Undoubtedly Rooney and Owen is the best partnership, but that's because Rooney is a bit special.

Sorry, for some reason I had it in my head that you were advocating a Crouch-Owen partnership with Rooney just behind - I totally forgot what had been said on previous pages.

Oh dear! Arsenal are making a hash out of many scoring chances against Blackburn. I'm beginning to think the only way they can qualify for the Champions League is to do a Liverpool and actually win the thing.

If that happens, it'll go in my signature, and out will come 'Chelsea - Premiership Champions 2004-05'.

Actually, Chelsea's coming out anyway after the season's over.

Come on Wigan, strike a blow for the little guy. Always good to see ManYoo not winning things. :p
Darned right.

Wigan is the pie capital of the western world, and as such they get my full backing tomorrow.

I'm in a happy mood tonight because

1. My beloved DCFC scraped a spawny 1-0 win over Plymouth
2. I'm in Brizzle tonight and No 1 son's taking me and Mrs LE out for a birthday treat in an hour or so to a very nice restaurant.
