Peter Crouch is actually quite average in the air....
Owen out jumped him to score against Argentina for example...

As for his ball control...well

Plus there is never any strength in his headers.

Do not know for the life of me why Benitez signed him.

Owen was in front of Crouch, so that's a nonsense for a start.

The reason Crouch was signed is because he's an obvious aerial threat and sucks in defenders. Intelligent people who observe the occasional bit of football can see why, the knuckle scraping imbeciles that boo him don't see why.

Your opinion.. but rarely is he marked by more than one defender.

Benitez was often looking for a "big man small man" combo by signing him, but my point is that he has no real strength to hold up the ball for players around him. Only his height sets him apart. He is very average with the ball at his feet too.

He is double marked repeatedly, one behind and one in front - usually from dead ball situations.

He shouldn't be used to hold up the ball particularly (his height would be mostly wasted in this situation), although he will do that just as any forward will from time to time. He should be there to head the ball on for runners in and around the box and to head crosses, which is what he does.

What's your beef with Owen? He's a natural finisher.

All I've said is if he's such a flop in Europe how does he have the record he does?
Actually no you didn't.

You said there were only 2 players with more goals. Well, there's 3 more ansd that's only since '88.

i don't think there's any before apart from Di Stefano (49) that ahead as they simply didn't play the same amount of games
Yes but you used to get really weak teams competing. Back in the '50s and '60s when it was in its infancy, United used to regularly hammer teams with scores similar to 10-0 in the earlier rounds - only when you got to the QF did you get any competition, as a rule. United made at least the semis in every year they competed in the two decades.

As such, I'd have thought strikers would have hammered a fair few in. I just can't find any stats anywhere to see how many exactly they got.

I have to agree with young Scaly here.

Raul is not a world-class striker, and as such he shouldn't be mentioned with Ronaldinho, Shevchenko etc. Just because he's a folk hero at Real doesn't make him a great.
However he is far from mediocre.

3 more, 2 more - still shows he's hardly the flop that some like to make out.
