For those following the Leics v/s Lancs match, what's your opinion of Chapple's five here and Karthik's performance so far?

I'm not really following it, but Chapple is a useful bowler who needs to iron out his inconsistency, and Kartik has been a revelation since signing for Lancs - mind you, Old Trafford has been a bit of a bunsen this year. Can definitely see him coming back next year, though.

Somerset's 7-man bowling attack is one of the worst I've seen today:

Andrew, M Parsons, Woodman, K Parsons, Blackwell, Durston, Suppiah.

Ouch.

Wasn't it at OT that Kaneria went 64 overs without taking a wicket?

Chapple was once in the running for an England team spot, after which I have been reading about his performances. Initially a few thought his selection was a joke, but he's done rather well with ball and bat (especially in 20-20) for Lancs. Karthik seems more at home playing for Lancs than for India- maybe they can give him a full-time contract next season.

By the way, I heard Nehra had gone to England after he left Zimbabwe. Is he in action in the FC scene?

Not that I've heard of - I don't think so

See, I told you not to give up! :D

You haven't by any chance heard any rumours about possible signings for the Zoidermen, have you? I think an opener, a pace bowler or two, and a reserve wicketkeeper (Andy Pratt's been released, they should sign him) should probably be pretty high up on the list, and an experienced middle-order batsman would be handy.

EDIT: Given that their bowlers are so bad, it's a good job they're only playing Derbyshire - although Derbys are 48-0 off 17 so far.

I think superkingdave will have something to say about that...

I'd think he needs to sort out the fact that he's always crocked, first.

Oh, they were terrible. And they didn't bat well either. It was set up for Hildreth and Durston to get runs, flat pitch, young pacemen Wayne White and Nick Walker spraying it everywhere, and then Hildreth goes for the big shot, gets it aerial, and Jon Moss takes a fantastic catch at midwicket. I have to say Derbyshire did actually bowl quite well, I was very surprised to see how competent they are. An old guy sitting near me said to anothe r "It's asking too much from those young boys to bowl on this pitch with that total" (inflect with comedy Zoider accent) and he was proved quite right. Bassano, who was opening in place of the dreadful walking wicket known as Ben France, and Steve Stubbings, who sometimes apears to a heavily set version of Geoff Boycott on valium, set off at a good rate. Blackwell tried Andrew, Woodman and both Parsons, but the introduction of Wes Durston broke the partnership when Bassano, going for a four to bring up his fifty, flicked one off his legs to backward square where Suppiah (I think) pulled off a great catch. Durston's next ball deceived as good a player of spin as Hasan Adnan, who just managed to stay in his ground, but after that there were no troubles seeing it through to the close, Adnan even hitting Blackwell for six. Derbyshire are big favourites.

White was ecstatic to get his wickets, and the whole team ran up to congratulate him. It must have been hard for him to start with as he was getting smacked around and he dropped Hildreth on 70-odd. Derbyshire clearly have a strong team ethic.
