It's probably because they're wides because they're to wide to play, and thus to wide to be hittable, and it's not a wide if it's hit.
Yeah - I guess it would be a bit harsh if a guy was denied a fastest-hundred record or something just because the opposition happened to bowl 20 wides at him.

I like the term "moosed"

Sixiemasters sounds a bit crap, though
Yeah, I thought the same - moosed isn't the most descriptive word but it seems to fit, whereas sixiemasters is just baffling. It doesn't make any sense - where did the "masters" bit come from? I could understand it if he'd said "he's going to need to be the Sixmeister here" - maybe that's what he meant. :p

Great day at lords just great and finaly some silverwhare for hampshire, everything has been on the up since they moved too the rose bowl and warne has become captain along with the introduction of a number of new players. hopefully this is the first trophy of many. Ervine great inings again he looks like he may now become a quality batsman instead of the handy bits and pieces all rounder he was when he first arived. We should have got more than 290 lukily it didnt matter in the end. Bell suffering cramp was a major slice of luck but the bowling in the second half of the inings especialy from Watson and Bichel was really good and victory was deserved.

I think to be a real top-class 4-day team Hampshire will need (assuming they replace Bichel with Warne again next year and don't ditch Watson after the great year he's had) to sign a quality, English-qualified, pace bowler. Not a bits-and-pieces man like Mascarenhas or an all-rounder like Bichel - someone who can swing the ball and move it around at pace. With that they'd have a very rounded line-up. Perhaps a 4-day opener would be a good addition as well, although I can't help thinking Pothas or Crawley could make the step up and do the job at 4-day level to free up a middle-order spot, perhaps for the promising Kevin Latouf.

another fast bowler would be nice but the bowling atack has been very good for the last couple of years and it isnt an urgent need. They do really need a quality opening batsmen or either Adams or Brown to somehow develop into one. Ervine in the last few weeks has show that he could become a quality top or middle order player and that is excellent news. If they can find a conisntent top order then they will have a real shot at the championship next year, of course they still have an outside chance of doing it next year.

I'm sure they were less than thrilled about the fact that England's ODIs against India clash with the first month of the season, meaning they'll only get Pietersen for about 4 games in all competitions, probably - and he'll be knackered in the games he does play. Mind you, if he bats like he did today, they won't care. :p

Hows the old guard going, Udal and Crawley both playing on or will you need to fill those voids?

Udal is really thriving in his stand in captain role and is averaging about 20. Crawley hasnt been great since losing his England place but he is doing well recently and can stay for a couple more years. Obviously they will be retiring soon and hopefully replaced by English players as i dont really want an entire side of foreign players

Would be funny if England picked a third South African, but if he's eligable he wouldn't be a bad bet. Certainly in good form with a few centuries this year (three I think?), and he can't be any worse with the gloves than Jones.
3rd South African?

He's counting Strauss, who moved here when he was 7 from Johannesburg, where he was born. It's a little bit of a stretch calling him a Saffer - like calling Andrew Symonds a Pom.

lol at the sky commentators salivating over Louden's doosra
It's really scaring me how people are actually genuinely talking of him as an England prospect for the tours of India and Pakistan this winter.

On a slightly related note, he's not the only Englishman able to bowl a doosra, as one of Exmouth CC's Under 13s was bowling them at the East Devon district trials. He also thought my accent sounded like Mike Atherton, so...

Quite an entertaining finish there at Taunton.

Does anyone have a link to a story about the totesport league format for next year?

Apparently Loudon was known as FEC at Kent. Except the FEC didn't stand for the traditional Future England Captain, the "E" stood for Educated & was bookended by two industrial strength Anglo-Saxonisms in reference to his Eton & Durham Uni background! :p

Sorry, can't find one for the life of me! Possibly less fixtures but 40 overs a side I think - with the C&G Trophy regionalised into two groups at 50 overs.

Yeah id heard something of the sort just wasn't sure of the official word.

What do you lancs guys think of Steven Crook leaving to go to Northants? I think it's a shame that some of this current crop of youth players aren't getting an extended run in the side and there is a rumour going round that Sajid Mahmood is on his way to sussex.

tbh i like Crook and i think he'll do a decent job for Northants, but i don't think he was a long term player for Lancs - i'd be sorry to see Mahmood go though, where did you here that about him?
