Anyone know why Hussey isn't playing for Durham today?

Injury? I guess we would have heard if he'd been called up to the Australian squad.
A call-up for the Australia A squad to tour Pakistan. Clearly not under consideration for the Oval then. Or if he is, he'll be so bloody tired after flying round the world five times he won't be able to bat.

Just out of interest, how close to playing for Somerset did you actually get? Have you played with anyone else from the senior squad apart from him? Durston, Suppiah, Munday maybe?
It was Somerset U17's with guys like Woodie and co. Might have included Michael Parsons as well... I was a leggie back then who bats in the middle/lower order.. Basically it was either me or another offie guy and he got in.. I had broken my left hand which didnt help my batting but I thought I bowled better than the other guy..

I havent played with Suppiah, guys like Rob Woodman, Robin Lett (look out for), James and Paul Hildreth I have played against. Richard Timms, Tom Webley (got out!) and James Hudson who have all been on the edge of FC. Hudson was 12th man in a test match against India... And Keagan Africa and Grant Elliott in South Africa who have played first class.. I might be playing with Martin Saggers this coming season in South Africa, but thats all a bit up in the air yet, I need a lot of net sessions and to sort out my batting..

Oh yeah, of course. Forgot about the A team. That would put paid to Jaques chances as well, so people can stop calling for them to join the team.

This will be the first Aus A tour anywhere in a fair while actually, it will be good to see how they go.

Fairly impressive - especially that you've played against James Hildreth, who in my opinion is a future England player. Is his brother (I'm assuming younger brother) any good?

I think you put most people on this board to shame, especially me - my only claim to fame is having netted with a possible Sussex U19 player! :D

Although the list of cricketers I've met is much more impressive: most of the England team (Michael Vaughan stole my pen and nearly trod on my camera!), most of the SA team, most of the Windies team (but not Lara), assorted county players (Richard Johnson, Chris Schofield :p ), and some ex-pros (Carl Hooper, Sir Viv Richards, Mike Atherton, Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Holding - who incidentally is an absolute w***er - and I watched the legendary Richie Benaud walk away having been too late to catch him :@ ).

As you can tell, I like name-dropping. :D

nice day for Lancs, maximum bowling points after losing the toss and Durham only collected one of 5 batting points.

if we can knock over teh last soon tommorow we need to really crack on, don't want to be chasing too many in the last innings on a bunsen

Watson doing well again, 91 not out at stumps. He's got four sizable 50s in five matches for Hampshire so far but hasn't managed a century, so hopefully he will get one now.

What makes you say Holding is a w***er?

I was at Day 1 of the Oval Test 2003 against SA, and me and a mate hung around at the end to get some autographs etc. Holding came down after commentating for Sky, and despite the fact that there were only about 6 people asking for autographs from him (most were kids who didn't know who he was) he flatly refused, and was quite rude to me and a couple of others.

Then, when I was at Taunton for a day/night game between Somerset and Lancashire, he was again commentating for Sky, and I nipped round the back of their commentary spot at the end, hoping to catch Ian Botham who had also been commentating. Holding appeared at the top of the steps, and despite the fact that I was the only person waiting there for an autograph, he walked straight past me, and without even looking at me just said "No. No autographs."

Personally, I have no time for anyone who can't even be bothered to be polite to someone who is asking, out of respect and admiration, for a moment of their time to sign an autograph. I could understand not signing loads of them on a time basis, and perhaps even having a "no-autographs" policy, but there was absolutely no need to be so rude.

Well, absolutely. I remember once my secondary school got some tickets to the 1999 NZ tour match against Somerset. i was very excited to see my heroes playing and I wore my NZ 99 WC shirt, had to endure the busful of year sevens calling me a traitor, before standing on the boundary with a load of other kids asking Dion Nash for an autograph. I was the only NZ supporter there and he ignored me completely.

Charl Willoughby did a similar thing to me on the Taunton outfield during the innings break of the tour match there. He was about to start chucking a ball around with Thami Tsolekile (who did sign an autograph), and he used that as an excuse to tell me to "get lost".

Be fair, he was probably miffed at the prospect of going to chase the thing when Thami missed it...

To be fair, Thami did manage a blemish-free 6 overs after the innings break......

Tjaa well this winter is going to be a vitally important one for me after a nonexistant season this year.. Having been bowled by a Neil Pickup googly I can safely say that cricket is a good leveller..

Yeah good effort, will be fun seeing him get along with KP on saturday after all their encounters during the ODI series. Anyone know if Warne is being allowed to play on Saturday in the C&G final??

Make that an unbeaten double century, and a 250 odd stand with Mascarenhas.

That's 540 @ 77 in first class games for Watson at Hampshire. Very impressive stuff. A pair of OD centuries too.
