*Official* English Domestic Season 2006

International Captain
Should be a close finish. Essex needing 95 off 10 with wickets in hand.

Spoke too soon - Pettini gone! 82-3, he was looking in good nick.

Some strange selection decisions by Essex for me. No Andy Flower & no Jefferson. Either has to be a better bet than Ten Doeschate, surely? He didn't even bowl.

67 off 6 overs. They'll be pushed to do this off Snape and co - paying for some bizarre selection and batting-order decisions.

Bopara goes now. Wheels coming off for the Beagles.

& now ten Doeschate. D*Ream over I think. Snape's been quality here.

Ryan ten Doeschate (20/20 average- 31.00) >> Will Jefferson (20/20 average- 13.72). Also Ryan is far superior fielder.

Wasn't that pretty much how bad he was doing for England as well though?
Not far off it. He's just got a progressively better bowler with each ODI he hasn't played. His performance today has reminded those of us with short memories (myself included) why he wasn't much lamented at the time tho.

On plus side Broad looked like the prospect people have spoken of today, although he did bowl all of his overs at the start of Essex's innings.

And why is that a problem?

The first 3 of his spell had the extreme restrictions (pretty much as he has had to deal with all tournament and prior to this game his economy was 4.29)

Doesn't help us at the death, does it? TBF to Gough his first 3 overs went for 13, but it's bowling at the business end where seamers earn their corn for mine.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…
I said it was a bum call before ten Doeschate was at the crease! Flower was clearly the man who should've played, anyway.

Cook hardly covered himself with glory, either. Hope that was Essex's call & not an ECB inspired selection.

Good stuff from the Surrey boys though I did not expect much from Benning considering his current state of health.
