Oh im sure even the UCCE's are pretty hot cricketing outfits.....

However they arent county sides, so they shouldnt be expected to perform as such... If they played test cricket, they wouldnt be bottom...
You don't half talk crap at times :D

Well James Anderson has thrown himself into consideration with a ten wicket haul.

I must say I have been impressed with Scott Newman so far.

Can't see him making the 1st Test though - it wasn't against that great a side!

I assume that is impressed with the number of runs he's scored.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, it's "how" not "how many" that counts.

Still it helps his confidence though and has probably made the selectors look up and notice.

Newman's 55 helped put Surrey back into the game along with Mark Butcher's 100.

I doubt that that he's anywhere near the thoughts yet - there's a long line in a queue as well as the 3 in possession.

i think we've had about enough of anderson at the test match level.....unless he can do something about his pace, i doubt he'd trouble anyone in tests

Good to see Geraint Jones hammering Vettori and co about the park. Let's just hope for more of the same on thursday if he's picked, or would it be friday just before declaring at 650-5?? 8-)

Hmmm Harmison, S.Jones and Hoggard (Flintoff as the all-rounder). Then there is Caddick (who I give little chance of playing for England again because of his age), Richard Johnson, and James Kirtley and then there is Anderson.

Big century for Butcher, 89 for Thorpe, century for Jones, 5 dismissals and a nice contribution with the willow for Read.

Some good chances for people to gain some form.

Richard Johnson takes 7 wickets in an innings as well.

Thats rubbish...pace isnt the be all and end all. It's nice but if you move the ball around as much as Anderson can you dont need pace. His problems so far have been consistancy and accuracy. But considering he's only 21 i think he'll come good over the next few years with them. Looking at the early season form of both Anderson and Simon Jones i'd go for Anderson for the first test. But knowing the england selectors wont want to break up a winning team Jones will get the place.

we are going down :(
Don't get too down. We did very well vs Kent and just had a very bad last innings for our first game and our second game was against the fav's for the Championship. It can only get easier from now on :) Also Kabir is gonna be back in a few weeks so that will increase our wicket taking potential. But we seriously have to sort out the batting next season no matter what div we're gonna be in.

Add to that, Hussain has scored 86* at a quick rate which means that now all of England's middle order bar Flintoff who isn't playing have scored 80+ today.

it is if you cant bowl 2 balls on the same spot and if you lack penetration. i think you've hit the nail yourself, anderson wont get any wickets if he plays outside of those seaming wickets and we've seen how much of a success he was in SL and against SA.

Most fast bowlers will struggle in SL and as i said it had nothing to do with his pace that he got smashed by SA, he could have bowled at 90mph against SA and it wouldnt have made any diff to the fact he wasnt bowling proper line / length and therefore would have still gone for alot of runs. Just look at Brett Lee's test average to see Pace isnt everything.

granted pace isnt everything, but you need to have penetration....anderson doesnt have any penetration at the moment, which is why he needs to up his pace. you can look at brett lee at one end,but you can also look at darren gough or martin bicknell. why arent they playing for the side?they're both accurate and can swing the ball just like anderson...yet gough retired when he lost his pace while bicknell was dropped.

Must laugh at the Essex vs Glamorgan match today...

With Essex needing just 18 to win with 3 wickets in hand they managed to lose two of them in two balls and then with the extra half an hour of play they managed to score so slowly that the umpires were forced to call it a draw with Essex still 9 runs short and Glamorgan needing just 1 more wicket... That's gotta hurt! (for both)
