(re: Craig's being impressed with Scott Newman)

I assume that is impressed with the number of runs he's scored.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said, it's "how" not "how many" that counts.
And your point is?

I don't know how much of Newman Craig's actually seen this summer, but what I've seen of him has impressed me quite a bit. I don't imagine he's anywhere near the head of any queues yet, but I don't see any reason to suppose that he couldn't be competing for representative selection in a year or two's time.

Cheers,

Mike

Craig is 12,000 miles away, so how can he say anything about Newman's position as a potential England player based on scores (seeing as the present England side is selected on a much better basis than the figure in the scorebook)

well said.
Theres no doutb Newman is a promising talent but theres at least 5 batsmen who id put ahead of him as 'potential england players' before he'd even get a look in. At least English Batting has finally got some good depth to it.

It's possible that he might have read some articles about him or reports of matches. You have to watch an awful lot of county cricket to get more than one opportunity to see a player not from your county each season, so you have to rely to some extent at least on reports and what you hear from other people.

From those sources, plus my own observation, I think it very likely that Newman will have an eye kept on him to see what develops.

Cheers,

Mike

Graeme Hick and Ben Smith punishing the Gloucestershire bowlers.

Worcestershire 454/2 (117.3 ov)

Worcestershire RR: 3.86

GA Hick (RHB) 219*
BF Smith (RHB) 187*

Current Partnership: 417 runs

Wow.

Hick obviously wants Bracewell to leave English shores a hurt man.
First he smashes the NZ team, then he goes on a rampage against Bracewell's 2nd home, Glouc's.

I recall that Ben Smith played 2 seasons for Central Districts a couple of years back with good success.
I think his age is the problem with England currently looking to inject some youth into their team.

Blimey, Gloucs really are being put to the sword. :-O

Solanki getting in on the fun now with 57* SR 93.44.

Good knock from Ian Bell - he needs a big year with the other players becoming available for England...
