Mate, they haven't exactly been average in this series. Kallis, Ntini, Pollock, Gibbs have been oustanding almost all the time, and everyone bar Hashim Amla has contributed in some way.

Although SA are clearly not what they used to be, they have played well this series. They've bowled quite well, and batted very well with players like Kallis, Boje, De villiers (sp?) playing well earlier, and now Gibbs and Boucher.

Some of the best cricket I have seen has been played in this series by both teams. Smith has been dodgy with his field placings which is a blemish.

Great win by England. Top effort.

Good to see South Africa fight till the end and not meekly surrender.

Before that happens, Jeff Wilson will redeem himself for that Gregan tackle when you guys are over here next month.
Look out!
:sneaky2:

If he can tackle Glenn McGrath into oblivion then you guys might stand a chance :D

Worth noting: England avoids a series loss in South Africa for the first time since 1965. Also, it's the first time since 1957 that England have won two Tests in South Africa - and the first time since 1962 that anyone except Australia have won two Tests in South Africa.

This team is still breaking records...

But of course this is a comparatively weak SA team so it really counts for nothing.......

The South African side wasn't really at all weak with players such as Gibbs, Kallis, Smith, Boucher, Pollock, Ntini etc. We just played that much extra, and Michael Vaughn's captaincy was superb (shame about his catching though).

Playing it like the Aussies do

Declarations in both innings......Trescothick attacking (24x 4s & 4x 6s) and scoring quick runs to move the game forward......Bowling the opposition out in 2 sessions on the last day with attacking fields....7 fielders around the bat....a winning attitude

This looks like the same aggressive cricket that the Aussies play and which creates victories 9 times out of 10. Should make a very interesting contest in the Summer.

Well done to England. Together with the Aussies, they are making Test matches more exciting and worth watching.

i seriously cant believe that so many people are making this out to be something so brilliant that we even look like challenging australia. our batting bar tresco, strauss, key and possibly vaughan(even though all hes had is one good test, and it doesnt make up for all the poor ones hes had before this) has been miserable. we desperately need a replacement for jones, who simply hasnt improved in either the batting or the keeping department, despite flaws been pointed out in both. read unless hes made massive strides in his technique is simply not test class and was dropped because he wasnt good enough, not because we had a better player waiting. our bowling has been miserable too- hoggard really has been the only bowler whos had some sort of success while both flintoff and harmison have been rubbish, harmison especially. we have absolutely no bowler who even looks near test class at the domestic level as our back up.
seriously, we cant threaten the aussies with 4 batsman(2 of which are horribly inconsistent) and 2 support bowlers( 1 of whom becomes attacking on seamers).

id like to see bell in for the next game because i really see this as a chance to test out someone to in unfamiliar conditions to see how good he really is before the ashes. the question though is who to drop?

I hope no one seriously thinks we can challenge the aussies either without drastic improvements in all areas. Anyone who has seen the aussies in recent months will know this to be true.
