Okay, did I miss something?? Why are people discussing the Pakistan bowling attack on an Ind v Eng thread?
Edit: Found nothing in the previous few pages as well...
Don't bother trying to solve that mystery ... it'll just hurt your brain.

Yeah the criticism and sarcasm was totally stupid. These guys are totally new to International cricket, Pakistan own bowling attack got a hammering when India toured Pakistan recently, and they have guys playing for their team since a long time yet they got thrashed.
Here's some advice. You're obviously more than capable of making reasonable contributions to this discussion, so don't go out of your way to make yourself look like a troll ... seriously, where did Pakistan come from?

Munaf is playing what his 2nd or 3rd ODI and VRV was making his debut......c'mon, you've gotta cut them a bit of slack especially when bowling on these wickets.
Always a bad idea to give birth to a fast bowler in limited over cricket, especially the ones that are played on dusty subcontinental pitches, that has really nothing for pacers.

The future of English bowling does look bright, Mahmood / Plunkett and Anderson all have alot of potential, although the former 2 are still a way off getting anywhere near the main side on a regular basis.

If only we could produce a proper spinner!
Mahmood cant bowl two deliveries to land within two feet of each other. Its difficult to think of many international bowlers who pepper the ball all over as much as he does.

They showed his bowling chart at the end of the Indian innings and it looked as if someone had carefully planted equal number of deliveries in every square foot of the square.

If he is the future of English cricket and if that makes it bright...well...well....well

He's still better than the likes of Sami,Rana and Rao!
I'm not Pakistani pal, so your jibes really don't concern me but is Munaf Patel a better bowler than Rana Naved and even Sami for that matter in the one day arena. From what I have seen of him in the past two games no, Naved might be costly but he takes wickets and Sami’s average and economy rate in one day cricket is more than respectable. Sure Patel has played only two games but to say he is better than two proven cricketers in the one day arena is laughable, wait until he does something then we can talk.

No way is Mahmood the future of English bowling. Tremlett, Plunkett, Anderson, Panesar and so on possibly.
He's not the standout prospect but I thought he bowled very well yesterday until the cramp set in. He's a little wayward but, given the lack of cricket he's had at Lancs due to their fetish for playing rubbish Australians, that can be excused.

Certainly I don't see why everyone's so quick to rubbish a bowler who can produce genuine pace and bounce from a fairly whippy action. I'd have him in my world cup squad if he gets a good lot of games under his belt at Lancs.

I wholeheartedly agree William, hes very wayward, but has pace, bounce and the ability to swing the ball.

Acuracy can come with more games played, hopefully.

He's alot more accurate than a certain Simon Jones was when he made his England Debut.

Im not saying he's good enough now, but accuracy WILL come. His pace and bounce he already possess are far more important imo.
This is the reason England employ specialist Bowling coaches.

I have noticed the ball comes out at a very weird angle when he bowls, almost 45 degrees instead of straight.

With Anderson / Plunkett / Mahmood / Tremlett i cant remember a time we had as many good young pace bowlers than this. Im not saying they will all become full time England bowlers, but some of them are bound to progress.

And that all depends how long the current 4 carry on.

Conceivably they've 4 or 5 years left, so maybe this lot aren't necessarily the future...

I see the Indian conditions have continued to wreak havoc on all and sundry.

The latest people to receive a pounding is the entire selection panel of 'Team India' - apparently Greg Chappell was less than impressed last week when he rang up after India had wrapped up the series by going into an unassailable 4-0 lead and gave explicit instructions regarding the fact that he thought that England were 'There to be buried 7-0 if we take the game to them'.

Apparently the heat had got to the selectors, who failed to pay full attention to the instructions. "He told us to pick four Singh players", one told Cricketweb.

Meanwhile, the latest casualty in the England camp, Ian Blackwell, is expected to see an Audiologist (that's 'Hearing Doctor' to you) when he returns home. He was subjected to an examination by the team doctor on Tuesday, and when he spoke to Cricketweb he reported that he had a glandular problem - "The doc said I'd got some Foreign Glands". One member of the Team England medical staff later revealed that Blackwell was the "... worst case he'd ever seen playing for England".

One final thing - apparently, Kevin Pietersen has a new job when he gets home - helping out at the centre where they are testing all the ducks and geese for Bird Flu. He should be all right - he never catches anything.

The parralells between Mahmood and Anderson are very simillar.

Both were picked form the lancashire leauges, both are wayward(Jimmy in the early years), both suffer from lack of cricket, but both, more importantly, have a certain quality which is worth striving to build on.

Mahmood needs to be dropped from the England side completely and spend one or two seasons playing county cricket as a regular, which i think would happen if he was allowed to spend some time in domestic cricket.

well not to drag Pakistani bowlers in this thread, having said that I gotta rebutt that comment, Rana Naved did get hammered in his first 2 games (he debuted against India in 2004), game 1 Sehwag ripped him to shreds, game 2 sachin ripped him to shreds, the same rule seems to apply for Patel too. An inexperienced bowler(s) will always be the opposition's target in ODIs..Rana was India's target in his first 2 games, Munaf and VRV are England's target this series.

Hence I would say cut Patel and VRV some slack and I do agree with your overall comment that we can only wait and watch what Patel does over the coming year/years before judging him. On the topic of Sami though, I consider him AA for Pakistan and he has never disappointed me in that :)

Anyways time will only tell how good or bust Patel and VRV are.
