Cricket Club of India 174-6 at tea. Blackwell the only spinner to get a wicket for England so far, but he's been going at nearly six an over.
Nothing discouraging about Panesar so far, very economical after twelve overs. Hopefully he will produce some wicket taking balls. Obviously the tests are a completely different matter though.Barney Rubble said:Cricket Club of India 174-6 at tea. Seconded. Someone's gotta fly the South-West flag, eh Anna?Anna said:Make that 13.3--3--57--4, CCI 251 a.o. Go Blackie
I actually suspect it's Udal's side strain that's kept him out. In light of Blackwell's performance today I think he's probably the front-runner just now, if only by default. We may've played a half-fit Ash Giles, but a half-fit Udal is quite a different proposition! Panesar's fielding & batting are, I suspect, far too dodgy for Fletcher to seriously consider playing him.Jono said:Panesar just picked up a wicket, granted only the number 9 batsman but he was on 36 and seemed to be doing alright. Blackwell's done alright.
Udal's figures aren't very impressive though he didn't bowl much.
Edit: Sorry said Blackwell, meant Udal. I guess they wanted to give Panesar and Blackwell a go to prove themselves since Udal is the front runner.
I mentioned Vaughan bowling his offspin earlier in the thread but as was rightly pointed out his knee would probably fall off.Xuhaib said:Do England really need a spinner?
Ashes Fab 4 should be given the job with Vaughn backing them with his offies.
Lol, it seems in Monty we have someone to take over Devon Malcolm's long vacant role as jester/cult hero when it comes to batting and fielding.BoyBrumby said:I actually suspect it's Udal's side strain that's kept him out. A report I read said all Panesar's (3) runs came off edges & that the crowd were giving him a bit of stick for his "mishaps" during a teatime fielding drill. A cult-hero in the making, mark my words!
Sky, who hold exclusive rights for all England's home games, were rejected out of hand by Nimbus yesterday.
"We find the terms offered by Sky Sports to be singularly unattractive," the Nimbus chairman Harish Thawani told the Sunday Telegraph. "We will demonstrate there are some alternatives for cricket in the UK. Their [Sky Sports'] monopoly has just ended."
Barring a substantial increase in their offer to Nimbus, Sky seem unlikely to secure the rights for England's tour at this late stage and it is understood that the live broadcast of the tour will be shown on one of the UK's cable networks: ARY Digital, Sony or Zee.

What a complete joke, hopefully the Beeb can get the highlights be mark improvement on the British Badminton finals. I’ll be darned listening to Henry Blofeld’s 19th colonial terminology on the wireless.Sky, who hold exclusive rights for all England's home games, were rejected out of hand by Nimbus yesterday.

Highlights are cool as long as there are extended (two hours) but knowing C4 or even C5 it will be a crappy half hour slot around 7.30 at night. Good thing is I don't have to skip Uni now.superkingdave said:highlights will be on C4 or C5 aparrently.
BBC lookslike getting the radio rights
