***Official*** England in India

Meh, don't take too much into these practice games. If England collapsed to all-out for 70-odd or something, then maybe it'd be concerning but for now all this tells me is that Bell's clearly going to be the anchor (if it wasn't already reasonably obvious) and so if India can get him early on most occasions it'll help India on their way.

Read my series preview - I picked out Trescothick as England's key man. Great minds think alike, eh? ;)
I said this on 2/11/2005 about Trescothick:

"it's under-rated IMO how much his form dictates England's fortunes as he more than anyone sets the tone at the top of the order."

Not into trumpet blowing though.....:p

Only kidding, I just think it isn't just this series that he's the key man. I think it's every series. Reading the Ashes book, it's plain to see the effect that Banger being on form has on the rest of the team when you read what Strauss has to say on his thoughts when Trescothick goes off like a rocket.

And for general laughing purposes: Neil Pickup's views on Ian Bell.

Just wanted to know. How many of you think that india and england should play a 20-20 game against each other. I want to see how the likes of sehwag and dhoni would play in that sort of match. Unfortunetly, india always seem to back away from matches like this.

It'll happen soon. Both touring sides this summer are playing Twenty20 in England, it's just that India hasn't adopted the game yet.

I feel he'll be key in the way that you can build an innings around him. He can grind out scores whilst the bashers like KP and Freddie (providing he took his batting brain with him) can play around him. He can be the glue that holds the innings together.
i really hope that i never see freddie play a sweep shot again......

England struggled in the opening match against an inexperianced side. How England side are going to fare against Indian national side is now a guess for anyone!!

I'm going to protest that I was borne out here.

Bell managed to sort his head out in the space of a couple of weeks (anyone else see the story about his being bowled by the team physio). The point of the (admittedly slightly sensationalist) post was that Bell's problems were not technical, but mental.

His dismissal today was awful though...

smashes a huge six on to the roof at long on, tries the same next ball and is stumped about 8 miles outside his crease.

In the interview afterwards he said he was trying to give other people a chance to bat....i think the batsmen after his dismissal contributed about 5 between them.

Yes, they really struggled. Making 300 having not played any cricket in 2 months, that's shocking. Can people stop making snap judgements about the England team and its players, please?
