Not necessarily opening, IMO.

If they wanted to win the game, by sending out a night-watchman, you are either wasting a wicket because you want him to get out so that Dravid can make the runs for you, or if you want him to make runs chances are that Kumble will do it a lot slower than recognised batsmen, and make it harder for the team to win.
Kumble's gotten runs pretty quickly during this series mind you :p

Lets give credit where its due. Umpires are neither here nor there. Hair has as much chance of being biased as Yuvraj has of being involved with bookies for dropping those catches.
 who knows he doesn't usually drop sitter like that ;)

Should be interesting day of play tomorrow.. Yuvraj better score some rusn to make up for all those drops but hopefully it won't come to that. Kumble to get a 100 tomarrow and take the man of the series award :P

Batting's let us down so far but hopefully they'll show bit of determination tomarrow and at least get us a draw. Its goin to be too hard to pull off a win.

Because setting 220 in 5 sessions would've really been good wouldn't it?!
As opposed to forcing them to bat out what... 85 overs after the umpires offer the light and England bowl their usual over rate? Look at how many overs have been batted in the previous innings. It is easier to bat time than bat for a target that you have to make.

If India hadn't lost a wicket at the end this would have been a perfect days play for them.

If India had most of day four (and the day four wicket) and all of day five, they could just try and bat out the time, and make the target as a side effect.

Some of us have been talking about how we'll shed tears the day Sachin leaves Indian cricket. Now I'm feeling the same way about Kumble. Obviously he has been a top performer for India for long, but today just exemplified the class the guy has. Whether it's going all out as a 35-year old for a blinder of a catch against Pietersen, rescuing the team with the bat as a #8 and then coming in to face the swing of Hoggard and Anderson, or bowling his heart out over after over even though his innings figures should've been 7-40 instead of 4-49 (missed chances ...). Now I'm feeling it for Harbhajan too, so glad to see the big smile on his face while talking to Nasser Hussain at the end. Now I'm feeling it for Dravid too, class act.

That's all for now.:)

Please don't fill this thread with talk about whether Hair is biased or not, especially when you are arguing it to someone who apparently knows him. Its going to go nowhere fast!
So if I personally know Murali, will people stop arguing about him here with me? ;)

Well this morning was some gripping cricket thats for, i wonder how costly Dhoni's miss stumping of Freddie will be tommorow morning, but well played by Flintoff i've been really impressed with his batting in this series, he has mixed aggression with defensive superbly. During the ashes Boycott was saying that how he should be playing if he wants to be considered as a top 6 batsman so maybe this series we might see a new style in Freddie batting approach.

But going back to the match i got a strong feeling England might sneak a win in the end, dont have much reason behind it but i just got this feeling.

Yeah now I'm quite worried about this injury situation. Will he be able to bat tomorrow? I was hoping he'd find his way back to form on Day 5.

I don't think prior has any right to be there over Shah, I don't see him suceeding at the top of the order in ODIs just yet, and i think Shah deserves a chance.

I nearly threw up when i realised how poor our bowlings going to be in this series, Jimmy and Fred are good enough, but how much is 30 overs from Ali, Blackwell and Plunkett going to cost us?
oh well i didn't put Shah in the squad because i thought he wasn't picked for the ODI's, but now that he is he should play in front of either Bell or Prior.

Look, I don't know why you English fans were acting so down at the start of the series. I still think Colly has done better than what Vaughan would have (although his cool captaincy would have been missed). I think Cook did cover up well for Tresco, obviously they do miss both in this test. And I think Monty has posed more questions to this Indian line up than Giles would have. I said it before and I will say it again. Their REAL LOSS was Simon Jones... But then again, he is always going to be in and out. England should consider him a bonus if he is available, really...

Having said all that, the REAL reason why I felt England would do well is because of a few things:

1. Flintoff's captaincy: I never thought he would be anything great tactics-wise. But I got the feeling that he was someone that the team would respond to, would get up for and would give their all for. He seemed to have a way of inspiring others and I am CERTAIN that it has played a big part in their performance here.

2. General positivity about cricket in England: With England doing very well for the past two years or so in test cricket, I always FELT that any youngster coming in would do well. Maybe it is because of the positive vibes associated with England teams recently, maybe it is because, since cricket is back on its way up on the popularity charts (thanks to Ashes and Twenty20 and the fact that this team is a good one), the youngsters would be keener to make their presence felt straightaway. I felt (and still feel) the same way about the INdian and PAkistani sides as well. There is a good vibe about all these sides and anyone coming in, I would expect to do his best and not get overawed by the occasion.
