The problem is Jono that Marc can has his own beliefs. But if I make a statement (like I did) based on my beliefs, my beliefs are questioned. It is called being immature and not understanding people can feel differently.
Pratyush - TOTALLY off topic, but do you use a similar nic to post on imdb.com?

Yeah. But I have made like 5 posts in 5 years! So I am really surprised you identified this.

I said they have done AS MUCH.
Ganguly and Bedi hasnt achieved anything CLOSE to what Tendulkar has. Tendy has competition from only three other players in this regard - Gavaskar, Kapil and Dravid.

I was just reading the Rang De Basanti board and saw the name and thought to ask. Anyway, back to the Sachchin debate!

Ganguly as an ODI player has achieved as much and won as many games as SRT did, Ganguly as Captain achieved much more than SRT did as captain, took the team out of the match fixing debacle, took a demoralized team which even lost series at home and took them to top, gave the team a new look...young players, foreign coach.

SRT obviously cant be compared to Ganguly as a test Cricketer, but If one looks at overall not merely runs scored or wickets taken , then Ganguly has done a lot and IMO as much as tendulkar.

No he hasnt. Ganguly is an alltime great ODI player but Tendy is one of the top 3 greatest ODI batsmen ever. Ganguly is to Tendulkar in ODIs as Gordon Greenidge is to Viv.
Good but second best.

Ganguly the captain is the best captain IND has ever had but a cricketer is ALWAYS a player first and captain second. And as a player, Ganguly is not even in the same stadium as Tendy is.

Flintoff was brilliant yesterday in bat. He stood and was counted and led like a captain ought to lead. He commaded the game and the only danger I saw to his score was how quickly the other batsmen would be out. The partnership with Harmison was great to watch (being a Durham fan!) and the big man proved that he can bat, which most of us have known all along. The only chance we had of causing a draw was if we stayed in bat longer and had time on our side but in the end we just couldnt do it.

A poor batting performance by most in the second innings and it really showed the weakness of that teams batting.

I dont hold much hope out for the third test. I just cannot see us winning with that team. We need to bring another spinner I think given the rumours about the pitch and as long as we perform well I will be happy.

I know as an England fan I shouldnt but you have to admire the Cricket being played by India at times and I am looking forward to watching Patel bowl again.

I know its been said a million times but if we win the toss and choose to bat, we have to put in a commanding innings.

no he hasn't....you kidding here or what...????:-O ganguly was a very good odi player at his best, one of the greatest one day opener pairings with tendulkar....but cannot be compared to tendulkar as a batsman....he just isn't in the same class....

Perhaps without Kapil Dev, we would never have had Ajit Agarkar. So that alone makes Kapil Dev a bad thing for Indian cricket. :-O
You can go off people, you know...

Great. Now we have two full-fletched arguments going on regarding Tendulkar.
Just wait and watch, SRT will smash a ton in his hometown Mumbai and blow you all away.

We are not talking about class or technique, we are talking about performance in the field and Ganguly has done pretty well and there was a time in his career (until 2002-2003) when he could nothing wrong as an ODI batsman. Bevan's class

22 100s, 10000 runs, 60 50s..IMO he has done exceptionally well and If anyone had asked me to pick one ODI batsman between 1996 and 2002, it would have been him.

Ganguly's popularity and average went down in last 2 years when he refused to accept that he was not the same batsmen he used to be, something Sachin seems to be doing right now at least in tests.
