Cricinfo has reported that Sreesanth is in doubt for 2nd test with viral fever. If he is out should we play just munaf and pathan as the seamers with 3 spinners (chawla, harb, kumble) or go with munaf, pathan, chawla, kumble. The omission of VRV singh could be costly now:-O

they can always fall back on RP singh, he has performed quite well of late.. so i think he deserves a place as much as any other seamer..

If its a greentop .....Irfan,Munaf,RPS, KUmble & Chawla (if Srisanth is out with injury)

If its not greentop ...Irfan,Munaf,Chawla,Kumble & Hurb

Would like to see the pacy pair of VRS and Munaf togeather in future but would be better if both of them don't earn a test cap in the very same match as Indian attack would be alot inexperianced then.

Contrary to the groundsman claim of a seamer friendly track, Jonathan Agnew in is BBC column is suggesting a spin friendly pitch. Which would mean Sreesanth loss wouldn't be all that bad, Munaf Patel seems like a pretty good replacement and he adds strength to India with his batting. India could be well advised to go with 5 bowlers (3 spinners, 2 seamers). It doesn’t fundamentality weaken the teams batting because four out of those five boys can hold a bat.

I don't see why India would prepare a green top, it'd just make no sense with England's attack.

Good smokescreen though and it makes for good fun guessing. :D

Yeah from an Indian perspective it would be cutting off your nose to spite your own face.

107 versus 120 - that's a pretty big difference.
Compared to the number of days of international cricket they have played, not really.

Also, why exclude Lara cos of just intervals? Tendulkar didn't miss games but India had intervals like in a period before the 96 world cup. Surprised you want to discount Lara just for the sake of it.

Okay that simply means that Sreesanth is out of the Final XI.

From BBC's website

England have dropped batsmen VVS Laxman and Mohammad Kaif for the second Test against England, starting on Thursday.

They have been left out to accommodate Yuvraj Singh's return after injury and the need to include an extra bowler.

Laxman was out for a first ball duck in the first Test in Nagpur, but Kaif can consider himself very unlucky after an innings of 91.

India have named a 12-man squad with the final choice appearing to lie between RP Singh and Piyush Chawla.

More follows

Laxman and Kaif dropped apparently, according to Ceefax:)
Blimey. A bit tough on Kaif. And a bit brave. Doesn't that leave them with 5 specialist batters, followed by Dhoni & 5 bowlers? Should be interesting.

Yes, Laxman, Kaif and Santh are out, Yuvraj and Munaf are a certainty now. 5th bowler is either Chawla or RP Singh.

I hope India win the toss and elect to field else Hoggard will take another Fifer :)

Did not expect Kaif to be dropped. With the current selection panel, I shouldnt I shouldn't be surprised with any thing though.

Thank God it wasnt a Ganguly who played in the first test and made the runs in the first test. He would be dropped again by the logic that Kaif has been dropped.

Who cares about being fair, Sachin Tendulkar must be accomodated, even if it is at the expense of an inform batsman. Reminds me of Kapil-Srinath and Ganguly-Yuvraj.

will be interesting to see who england go for in place of Blackwell (presuming he will be dropped. I'd say at this stage the front runner might me Udal, but if the pitch has something for the seamers i'd pick the big Lancastrian quick:cool:
