**Official** Cricket World Cup 2004 Discussion and Results

PY

International Coach
Can't spell 'looseners' either.

Two games in a row with no drops from me, hope people are noticing. ;)
Big game player, that's me. :cool2:

Cloete

International Captain
Very happy with a solid 19* :D that makes my WC average pretty impressive :)

Top effort again, restricting them to 141 and then for just the loss of rich managing 142. Well done to Eclipse, Rich and all of the bowlers!

Pool B: Netherlands vs Sri Lanka

NETHERLANDS 183 47.4 overs
SRI LANKA 186/4 45.1 overs

Sri Lanka won by 6 wickets

Man of the match: DPMdS Jayawardene

Very good fight by Holland in this one. With the bat they resisted Muralitharan superbly (Lefebvre hit him for consecutive sixes) and with the ball they were tight enough to take the game down to the last few overs. Important win for Sri Lanka to have a very very small chance of qualifying.

Pool A: Australia vs Pakistan

AUSTRALIA 291/4 50.0 overs
PAKISTAN 246/8 50.0 overs

Australia won by 45 runs

Man of the match: RT Ponting

Behind a blazing century from captain Ponting, Australia racked up a challenging total against Pakistan's finest. With runs in the bank, he then marshalled his men to limit Pakistan impressively for a comfortable victory and a second round spot.

Pool B: New Zealand vs India

NEW ZEALAND 250/6 50.0 overs
INDIA 224/6 50.0 overs

New Zealand won by 26 runs

Man of the match: MHW Papps

Having been dropped by Nehra on 10, Papps went on to push his team to a moderate total. The real performance came with the ball though, as the early wickets of Sehwag, Tendulkar and Laxman pushed back the chase and, despite the efforts of Dravid and Ganguly, India fell short.

Pool D: South Africa vs England

SOUTH AFRICA 267/4 50.0 overs
ENGLAND 155 42.0 overs

South Africa won by 112 runs

Man of the match: SM Pollock

In difficult batting conditions, Jacques Kallis and Jacques Rudolph guided South Africa to a very handy total. Then Pollock took over the spotlight, shredding an English batting order which only saw Trescothick and Flintoff apply themselves properly.

Pool A: Kenya vs Scotland

KENYA 163 42.3 overs
SCOTLAND 165/3 31.5 overs

Scotland won by 7 wickets

Man of the match: GM Hamilton

The shock of the World Cup to date. Kenya falls to Scotland! With a bit of seam movement in the air, the Kenyans collapsed for 163, which they could not defend against some positive batting.

Pool C: Canada vs Zimbabwe

ZIMBABWE 161 44.1 overs
CANADA 162/6 30.3 overs

Canada won by 4 wickets

Man of the match: D Joseph

Another huge shock! Amazingly Canada managed to upset Zimbabwe too! Davis Joseph the star on this occasion, as the low point of Zimbabwean cricket arrives and the high point of Candian cricket.

Pool B: New Zealand vs Holland
NEW ZEALAND 275/3 50.0 overs
NETHERLANDS 192/9 50.0 overs

New Zealand won by 83 runs

Man of the match: NJ Astle

Clinical for New Zealand behind some Astle and Fleming runs.

Pool C: West Indies vs Zimbabwe

WEST INDIES 313/6 50.0 overs
ZIMBABWE 195/9 50.0 overs

West Indies won by 118 runs

Man of the match: BC Lara

Another century for Lara led the way to confirm qualification for the West Indies.

Pool D: South Africa vs Bangladesh
SOUTH AFRICA 315/6 50.0 overs
BANGLADESH 243/7 50.0 overs

South Africa won by 72 runs

Great fight from Bangladesh, but this huge mismatch went the expected way after Klusener hit 50 runs from 35 balls and South Africa got 70 from the last 5 overs.

Pool A: Pakistan vs Kenya
KENYA 130 39.4 overs
PAKISTAN 131/3 27.0 overs

Pakistan won by 7 wickets

Man of the match: Mohammad Sami

Kenya crash out with another shockingly poor effort, this time undermined by Sami and co.

Pool B: Sri Lanka vs India
SRI LANKA 265/7 50.0 overs
INDIA 266/6 41.1 overs

India won by 4 wickets

Man of the match: SR Tendulkar

Sri Lanka knocked out after losing to the powerful Indians. India now climb up in odds for victory overall.

Pool D: England vs Namibia
NAMIBIA 183 40.5 overs
ENGLAND 184/9 47.5 overs

England won by 1 wickets

Man of the match: PD Collingwood

A crucial knock of 70 from Paul Collingwood just avoided huge shame for England as they manage to squeeze through to the Super Eights ahead of Namibia. Well-played Namibia!

Giving the stars a rest, I see :)

This is where we see how the English averages are so unrepresentative of their true talent!

Pool C: CW XI vs Canada

Well we're here for the final round of this preliminary round of matches of the 2004 World Cup. Both these teams, Canada and the CW XI, are on highs at the moment. Canada comes off a great win over Zimbabwe and the CW XI have won both their matches convincingly thus far.

A convincing win for Canda today can therefore knock the hosts out of the tournament rather prematurely.

Blewy has won the toss and he has elected to take strike on this Skydome wicket...

0.3 Mxyzptlk to Davison, no run, A lot of movement being extracted by Mxyzptlk
0.4 Mxyzptlk to Davison, SIX, What a wonderful shot! Wristy flick over midwicket, this time over the ropes!
0.5 Mxyzptlk to Davison, FOUR, Mr Mxyzptlk cant belive it as that one flies over cover's head!
0.6 Mxyzptlk to Davison, two runs, Overthrow by Eclipse instead of 1 they get 2

End of over 1 (16 runs)
CANADA 16/0

Some good bowling from Mr. Wright and Rik digs the side out of a potentially embarrasing hole.

That's the performance I've been looking for! Shame I couldn't hold out with the bat for a bit longer. A win is a win boys (& girls).
