Pool B: India vs Holland

INDIA 336/2 50.0 overs
NETHERLANDS 158/9 50.0 overs

India won by 178 runs

Man of the match: SR Tendulkar

A masterful display by Sachin Tendulkar proved the catalyst for a huge Indian victory to kickstart their World Cup campaign. With VVS Laxman, Tendulkar added a massive 276 runs unbroken for the third wicket, with 102 runs coming in the last 10 overs and an even more impressive stat of 68 in the final 5! To their credit, however, the Dutch batsmen did not give up and fought to the end, batting out their 50 overs against some strict bowling from India.

With reactions like this, I would be very disappointed if this member of the squad is selected to play in any match which affects India's chances of progression.

Suspicion over the missing Pakistanis

[Rawalpindi] The Pakistani press went crazy with today's publications, in the aftermath of their country's comfortable win over minnows Scotland at the World Cup in the West Indies. Questions raged as to why captain Inzamam-ul-Haq did not feature as he, strike bowler Shoaib Akhtar and star batsman Yousuf Youhana sat the game out. There are rumours which suggest that ul-Haq was being disciplined by the PCB for a room-service related incident. No details as to the 'alleged' happenings though.

Regarding Shoaib and Yousuf, the former was said to have asked for the day off to tend to sprained liver and the latter overslept after staying up until the early hours of morning watching a marathon of 'Alf'.

Pool C: **CW XI vs Zimbabwe**

CRICKET WEB XI VS ZIMBABWE at Beausejour Stadium
50 overs match
Pitch Condition: Normal

Beautiful day here at the Beausejour Stadium for this Pool C clash between the Cricket Web XI and Zimbabwe. The pitch is a good cricket surface - something for the seamers as well as for the batsmen and with any luck we'll have a good contest on our hands. History, however, would dictate otherwise. The CW XI has won all four of the previous meetings between the two teams rather convincingly. Indeed, they bowled out Zimbabwe for 97 and 110 in consecutive games down under last year.

Zimbabwe play their first game in the Cup and the CW XI come off a fine win over the West Indies, albeit a bit tainted by some shocking catching.

The key player for Zimbabwe will definitely be Tatenda Taibu, who will be a fair share of the batting and bowling one would think. Neil Pickup has an astounding 15 wickets in just 4 games against Zimbabwe and will be hunting for more today. For the CW XI, the batting seems to be in fine form, but the only one with significant success against Zimbabwe in the past is captain Blewy. Blewy has a career average of 93.67 against the Africans with a century and a half-century. He's lost the toss though...

Excellent performance by the team, to restrict a team to 141 all out even if the team is Zimbabwe is a cause for celebration in my book.

And then a clinical finishing of the job by the batsmen.

PS Where was Eclipse fielding? He took 4 catches!! :)

EDIT: Third slip by the looks of things. :p

Good to see the way I settle into my rhythm nicely without any need for rlooseners.. :p

Ignore those two pies and it's 4.4-0-13-1 :)

I'm thinking that we really have a genuine chance of winning this one!
