GROUP 1:
Webheads pull through
Cricket Web XI vs South Africa
at Edgbaston
Facing a must-win situation against the unbeaten South Africans, the Cricket Web XI took the field at Edgbaston with a keen task at hand. Things started on a shaky note for the Webheads, when Graeme Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first. Camps was then dismissed to a lovely outseamer from Shaun Pollock, and it was 5/1.
Run didn't come easily in the early going, and after 8 overs the score was 27/1. It was then that Brendon Goff began to assert himself, stealing two boundaries off a Pollock over. The second wicket partnership began to take shape in definite fashion, and by the time Goff dragged Boje onto his stumps, the score was 158/2.
Ian Markus was out soon after, caught by the lone slip for a good knock of 73. Though Andre Nel proceeded to dig in with 3 wickets late in the innings, another solid unbeaten knock from Marc Robbins held things together for a challenging score of 273/8.
Cricket Web was then off to a superb start in defence, and Nathan Hoy trapped Graeme Smith in front with the first ball he bowled. Gibbs and Hall rebuilt steadily before Camps had both within the space of 5 balls.
At the dismissal of the latter, yorked by a slower ball, Ashwell Prince joined Jacques Kallis at the crease to revive the innings again with a dangerous stand. The 59 runs added for the 4th wicket took just 57 balls. Just as Kallis looked to be getting on top of his game, the Ginger Wizard stepped in.
Boucher and Prince added a further half-century stand, but the early dismissal of dangermen Kemp and Pollock toward the end proved essential. Only 56 runs were managed from the final 10 overs - a good reflection of the nerve of the Webhead bowlers in the clutch. The brave effort clinched a comfortable 26-run victory, and extended life in the Champions Trophy.

Allround Symonds revives Australia
Australia vs Pakistan
at Old Trafford
A keen allround performance from Andrew Symonds lifted Australia from the despair of consecutive defeats to a comfortable victory over Pakistan. Much like the Webheads, Australia entered the match with everything to play for. An unbeaten half-century and 3 wickets from Symonds went a long way toward achieving the goal by 59 runs.
Matthew Hayden was dropped due to poor form, as Damien Martyn made his way back into the side. The change meant Michael Clarke opened the batting with Gilchrist, but his stay at the crease was cut short with 7 runs on the board. Rana Naved was the successful bowler, and he got Ponting caught at slip a ball later to stir Pakistan's hopes - 17/2.
Martyn started calmly, with Gilchrist playing beautifully at the other end. The two added 103 for the 3rd wicket, then Martyn gave way to Symonds, who added a further 92 with Gilchrist. Mohammad Sami found the top edge of Gilchrist's bat at the start of the final 10 overs, but Michael Hussey was up to the task, batting with Symonds to ensure that 64 runs were scored off the last 59 balls.
Set a target of 277 for victory, Butt and Akmal were quickly victims of McGrath. Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf played superbly in the middle order, but none could offer good support, and Symonds and Watson shared 6 wickets for the Australian cause.
