GROUP 1:
Aussies falter as South Africa slip home
South Africa vs Australia
at the Rose Bowl
Beaten for the second consecutive time, Australia were made to worry about their future in the Champions Trophy, as the struggling powerhouse now faces elimination. South Africa, led by a partnership of 101 for the fourth wicket, and a deep batting lienup, squeezed across the line by 3 wickets.
Makhaya Ntini and Nicky Boje shared 5 wickets, and Australia collapsed for just 169 after electing to take first strike on a good pitch. Only 3 boundaries were hit in the innings, expressing the level of dominance by the South African bowlers.
Australia hit back quickly, however, restricting South Africa to 20/3. It was then that Herschelle Gibbs scored his first runs of the tournament, having recorded 1 and 0 in his previous innings. He and Ashwell Prince (52) carried the score to a more reasonable 120, but were both dismissed in quick time of each other.
Justin Kemp's 21 was huge, but ultimately it was the contribution of Pollock and Boje, with 15 and 9 respectively, which saw the South Africans home.

Gough rallies England
England vs India
at Chelmsford
Bolstered by the addition of Darren Gough, England staged a dominant 8-wicket win over India. Gough was brought into the team for disappointing Plunkett, and did not enter the attack until the second change. He proceeded to bowl with accuracy and heart, though, and ended with 4 wickets to his name, as India reached 216/9.
Proving that application was all that was required on the pitch, Trescothick and Strauss batted cautiously through the initial overs, before their strokeply bloomed en route to a partnership of 67. Strauss was out to a stunning catch at backward point but his replacement, Vaughan, looked entirely comfortable too.
Only Tendulkar would take another wicket in the innings, and Vaughan batted superbly for an unbeaten 79 off just 69 balls, whilst his partner Pietersen was calmer in scoring 29 off 34.
Conditions: Overcast; damp; very little seam movement; decent for batting

India 216/9 (50 overs)
