GROUP 1:
Webheads chase down Australia for crucial win
Cricket Web XI vs Australia
at Trent Bridge
An ecstatic David Kearsley had the privilege of hitting the winning runs, as the Cricket Web XI chased superbly to eliminate Australia from the Champions Trophy and advance to the semi-final. Australia set a challenging target of 271, but the Webheads paced their innings brilliantly, and achieved the total with 3 overs to spare.
Goff won the toss and elected to field in conditions that boasted to assist the seamers. He was met with a positive start from the Aussies, however, as they reached 48/0 after 10 overs, before Watt impacted. The Red seamer claimed 3 wickets in 3 overs, and quickly set Australia back to 66/3 midway through the 15th over.
Michael Clarke took his place at the crease, and looked totally at ease in dominating a partnership of 71 with his captain. Camps bowled Ponting through the gate for a struggling 29, then Symonds joined Clarke for the best partnership of the innings. The two batsmen added a quick 119 runs, and Symonds looked to be dominating with a four and a six off Wright. He then swung over the top of a full delivery and was bowled comprehensively for 56.
The crucial dismissal came in the 48th over and was telling enough that only 14 runs came off the final 13 balls - 270/6.
Facing up to Lee and McGrath in much-improved batting conditions, Markus and Camps started confidently. The pair worked the ball around clinically, dispatching the fractionally loose balls to the boundary. By the end of the 15th over, the score read 92/0. The parnership cruised along and stood at 171 as Camps (88) cut Hogg to Symonds at point. Markus found a worthy partner in Goff, who wasted no time in gaining momentum. A further 60 runs were added and Cricket Web looked to be cruising home.
Two Clarke wickets and a run out stirred things up a bit, but when Marc Robbins smashed the first ball he saw from McGrath for six, it was clear that there would be one result for the taking. Kearsley executed the finale perfectly, dispatching Lee for two boundaries to seal an historic win.

Tendulkar finds form as India win
India vs Sri Lanka
at Lord's
Sachin Tendulkar finally found his stride, and blazed a superb hundred to lead India to a winning total of 305. The Sri Lankans dropped catches at crucial stages of the game, and were made to pay, as the Indian batsmen got in on a decent batting wicket. Muralitharan and Vaas combined to leak 132 runs from 20 overs, despite taking 5 of the 8 Indian wickets to fall.
Sri Lanka started promisingly in the chase. After losing Sangakkara in the first over of the innings, Atapattu and Thuranga played beautifully in taking the score to 156, before the former was brilliantly caught at backward point. The middle order conducted a high tempo of play, but could not accompany the effort by keeping wickets intact, and Sri Lanka's brave attempt came undone to the spin of Virender Sehwag.
Twice the star with the bat in this tournament, Sehwag turned it on with the ball, taking 5 wickets as Sri Lanka fell for 275 all out in the final over of the innings.
