Great win considering the amount of time we have been idle for because of the weather (bar the indoor training sessions of course ;))

That match should give us a good platform to build on going into our clash with the poms.

Oh and great stuff ginger you ledged!

And the rains seem to have cleared for good this time...

GROUP A:
Hinds and Sarwan lead the way
West Indies vs New Zealand
at Chester-Le-Street

Centuries from Wavell Hinds and Ramnaresh Sarwan were crucial, as the West Indies reached a total of 279/7 in their 50 overs, to beat New Zealand by 39 runs. Due a significant middle order collapse, the 182-run second wicket proved essential to the reigning champions staying alive in the tournament.

New Zealand showed spirit in the chase, with Craig McMillan's innings adding the greatest impetus. Alas, a superb spell from Dwayne Bravo and 2 wickets for Jermaine Lawson were enough to see the West Indies home by a fair margin.

The focus is now on the New Zealand vs South Africa match, as it will determine which two teams from Group A advance.

Conditions: Overcast; wet; lots of seam movement
Toss: New Zealand

West Indies 279/7 (50 overs)
New Zealand 240/7 (50 overs)

West Indies won by 39 runs.
West Indies (4 points) New Zealand (1 point)

Man of the Match: RR Sarwan

GROUP D:
Solid Pakistan eliminate Kenya
Pakistan vs Kenya
at Hove

Mohammad Yousuf and Kamran Akmal stroked half-centuries, before Shoaib Akhtar claimed 3 quick wickets to take Pakistan to a comfortable win, and eliminate Kenya from the CT. The Kenyan bowlers were disciplined, but lacked penetration, and only Steve Tikolo significantly impacted.

Chasing an improbable target of 275 for victory, Kenya never found any momentum, and despite resilient half-centuries from Modi and Patel, it was always a lost cause.

Conditions: Overcast; lots of seam movement
Toss: Kenya

Pakistan 274/6 (50 overs)
Kenya 206/5 (50 overs)

Pakistan won by 68 runs.
Pakistan (5 points) Kenya (0 points)

Man of the Match: Shahid Afridi

GROUP B:
Murali and Sangakkara humble Australia
Sri Lanka vs Australia
at Lord's

Against all predictions, Australia failed to finish on top of Group B, after Sri Lanka achieved a relatively comfortable 5-wicket victory in front of a packed house at Lord's. The spin of Muttiah Muralitharan had the Australian batsmen in knots, after Maharoof quickly dismissed Hayden and Ponting at the start of the innings.

Gilchrist and Clarke managed to revive the innings somewhat, but ultimately the Australians could only manage 205 all out. Partnered by a patient Tharanga, Sangakkara built his innings calmly and an opening partnership of 111 set a superb platform for the chase.

Whilst the bowling was good, the target was never enough to truly test the Sri Lankan batsmen, and Arnold forced the issue home with two boundaries off McGrath to attain victory.

Conditions: Overcast; a bit of seam movement
Toss: Sri Lanka

Australia 205 ao (42 overs)
Sri Lanka 209/5 (47.4 overs)

Sri Lanka won by 6 wickets.
Sri Lanka (4 points) Australia (1 point)

Man of the Match: M Muralitharan

GROUP C:
Dominant Cricket Web sweeps past England
England vs Cricket Web XI
at Grace Road

World Cup runners-up, the Cricket Web XI cruised past England by 123 runs, finishing comfortably on top of Group C. After Michael Vaughan won the toss and elected to bowl first in good conditions for the seamers, the English bowlers failed to capitalize, and the Webheads maximized upon such charity.

Liam Camps hit his second career ODI hundred to anchor the innings, whilst Brendon Goff's explosive 73 led the charge toward a big total of 296/8. For the second consecutive match, Andrew Flintoff struggled with the ball, and the backup bowlers failed to provide any containment.

Flintoff was not intent on letting his team down, however, and clubbed a resilient unbeaten 48, albeit in vain. Nathan Hoy and Dave Watt shared 5 wickets, and Neil Pickup followed up his career-best 6-for with 4 more. England struggled to score with any freedom, losing wickets to indisciplined shots and crumbling for 173.

Conditions: Overcast; wet; lots of seam movement
Toss: England

Cricket Web XI 296/8 (50 overs)
England 173 ao (36.4 overs)

Cricket Web XI won by 123 runs.
Cricket Web XI (5 points) England (0 points)

Man of the Match: LA Camps
