Realistically it's too far off, but Morkel reaching 1000 runs by the end of the series would be lovely

Australia need Bancroft and Warner to scratch around and scrape together some runs.

Aussie win with 200 from Warner and 150+ from Smith may save them in the long run tbh. That's exactly how public perception works.

They wouldn't go for someone like Rixon anyway. This whole thing is essentially driven by public mob outrage; they'll go for someone from the "good old days" to restore the status of Australian cricket or w/e. It'll be Waugh or Ponting or someone else from the late 90s or early 00s when the team won everything and no one cared about anything else.
Yeah but the outrage has been towards Smith who emphasised that coaching staff were not involved. Lehmann might keep his job

Sure but the undercurrent is a lot of "but we're not supposed to be like this, it wasn't like this back in the good old days!". That reactionary nostalgia is the first impulse of the mob ought not to be too surprising.

Listening to Whateley's radio program today is pretty instructive on that front.

What did Lehmann say to Handscomb on walkie talkie? "Go tell Cameron he needs to improve his fielding" ???
Bancroft has the after party duties as well... they were worried he had not got enough beer for later.
