Amazing, you guys are behaving as if u' ve never seen the Auzzies sledging or opening their mouth..so if someone else does it, you bounce back and question it? Great

I am proud Harbhajan did it and look forward for more..oh Thanx to the Auzzies for showing the world how to sledge
Exactly! What's with the outraged attitude? Aussies have been doing it worse for years - no right to complain now.

Just hate the idea that if someone else does, it becomes criminal and when Auzzies do it..its pretended to be "Oh boys will be boys"

I don't think it's a problem, Harbhajan will get his. I have a problem if you're doing it as the bowler is running in though, whether you're the bowler or not. At my level of cricket the player is warned if it happens more than once, and the captain is expected to control his players if this is happening. I'd imagine the same thing goes for international players........Gillespie was told to give up the arm-flapping on the way in, how is yelling at a player while you're delivering the ball any different?

I agree that no one should be allowed to talk when the bowler is coming in to bowl but the article I read did not mention Bhajji doing so. This is from foxsports.com.au.: http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,11042376-23212,00.html

*******************************************************
You can't take his statistics away from him, he's done pretty well against us," said McGrath of the offspinner who tortured Australia with 32 wickets in 2001 before striking again at Bangalore.

"He doesn't mind having a chat, especially when he's just gotten a batsman out. A lot of times I think if that was one of us, there might be a bit more done about it.

"Marto said it was constant screaming abuse. You don't mind getting sledged, but he seems to be going non-stop all day.
*********************************************************
If any body has a quote from McGrath saying he sledged while coming in to bowl, could you please post it?
OK, I found one quote which says he was talking as he came in to bowl but this is from a reporter, not a quote. Also the guy is obviously pleased that Bhajji did sledge so he may have gone a little overboard in his reporting;

Highly combative Harbhajan was so enthusiastic about upsetting Australia he even sledged batsmen as he ran in to bowl.

I have recorded the match, not that I want to watch it again...but I guess it was just that 1 over,..it wasn't something he was doing the whole day

Again, I don't remember what exactly happened, maybe someone here remembers

What's with all the valorization of Harbhajan's sledging by the Indian press? If they're all hyperventilating about Australia's sledging, they could at least try and be consistent on the issue. I can understand the irony of the Australian's complaints to a degree, I guess, although I don't think ANYBODY should be sledging as they're running in to bowl.

(I don't really have that much of a problem with sledging between play, as long as it doesn't cross certain lines into unacceptable abuse.)

BTW, is it just me, or is Marto turning into a bit of a drama queen? "Constant screaming abuse"? Soon he's going to start bringing the umpire an apple at lunchtime.

Isn't it a no-ball (or dead ball) if a player on the fielding team talks while the bowler is running in to bowl, including the bowler himself!? Surely, if this is happening, it couldn't go unnoticed by the umpy? The Australian batsmen should simply pull away and point out that the bowler is talking on his way in........and ask the umpires to take the gum out of their ears. Either that, or smack one back at Harbajan while he's got his mouth open.
It is not a no-ball, it is up to the batsman to pull away. I'm sure players would be doing it subtlely enough so the umpires wouldn't hear it.

Most of the discussion is centered around the article written by an Australian in the Australian press. In fact it is the Aussie press that started covering this first - obvisouly, the Aussie players first complained to them seeking a sympathetic ear. The irony in this whole situation would have made Shakespeare proud - who, by the way, was not in the Indian Press Core ever :)

Toss goes to Gilchrist, Australia batting, and Kaif is in for Chopra.
Bad, bad move having Yuvraj as opener. Will only pay off if he gets a few lives - which he never will against Australia. Ganguly looked pretty glum after the toss.

Yeah, fair enough - there were articles at mid-day.com and Express India, but it looks like they were reproducing the guts of this foxsports article anyway (which I hadn't seen). I should have said Indian supporters though.

Early days yet..but Zaheer is gone for 14 in 2 overs and Parthiv dropped a possible chance by not even trying :@
Bit harsh there! I think both Pathan and Khan have bowled well. Do you really think Patel is tall enough to take that catch?

Harsh ? Read this: Patel may not have been tall enough to make the catch but he is definitely short enough to have tried (harder) :@ Gilchrist would have gone for it :)

Very true, he should have made an attempt. My harsh call was on the bowlers.

Probably. But hey, I pay handsomely in the US to watch my cricket on satellite TV so I demand more :)
Harsh, though, is Chopra being axed for Yuvraj (my mum, as Boycott would say, could probably bat better than Yuvraj as an opener). I think it is sometimes hard to explain Ganguly's obstinacy. :)
