ummmm let me think because we are carrying to many hacks in the team, that come from a northen state ??
Hayden and Kasprowicz, I agree should be dropped unless they turn things around in the second innings. But you don't have much idea, if you think that the reason Australia are on the ropes is because they are playing badly. Any fool -probably even your good self - can see that England are playing magnificently. You don't play badly, for three Tests in a row, for no reason.

IMO one of the problems the Aussies have had since Edgbaston is that at no point have they faced up to this fundamental fact. They have stuck doggedly to the mantra (copyright M. Hayden) that all they had to do to win was perform to their capabilities. They haven't given enough acknowledgement to the reason why they are performing badly - ie. that England are actually quite good and are playing well.

well I am going to hold my hand up now and say England look like the far better side..I was trying to resist saying it for the last two tests, putting it down to Australia playing poorly and England playing really well.

But now, I cannot get away from the idea that the collapse was inevitable this afternoon, all it took was some good bowling, something England can produce much more consistantly that Australia.

the pitch is a batsmans dream, and yet Australia are 5 down already.

This is basically game over..Australia will not win this series as they have been outclassed by a superior team this summer. Pointless using excuses like McGrath has been injured, coz its the batting which has been the massive let down for me.

England have played incredle aggressive cricket and deserve teh series win, if it happens thats is :p

Yep thouroughly agree with that post. If england does not win this series it means one of three things.

1. England are chokers
2. English weather gods hate england
3. Australia has some how managed to save tests due to a houdini like escape

i think a massive difference is Hayden vs trescothick. With Hayden consistently getting out early it puts massive pressure on the order, whilst with trescothick consistently giving us a healthy opening innings it allows our order to play with more freedom.

Will be interesting to see Gilchrist tomorrow, the only man that can get something out of this innings now. If he goes, it doesn't really matter if katich plays well because it would require Warne to have another batting performance of his life and find that elusive century. Might happen i suppose.

Exactly. Constant talk of why isnt Hayden performing why isn gilchrist...nobody has actually considered the fact that Australia havent faced a quality seem bowling attack since curtley and courtney with a bit of donald and pollock, but this time its four guys. Perhaps, just perhaps, these batsmen with such good averages aren't actually that good against good bowling, that coupled with their attitude that they can attack the ball everytime to get results.

edit: touches wood!

I don't know about this, really - doesn't it essentially leave the Aussies (particularly the batsmen) with nowhere to go? I think this is probably true of a lot of Aussie cricket fans, but I DO think the Aussies have processed that the English are playing very well, and as a result, rather than looking cavalier and irresponsible (as they did early in the series), many of their dismissals have looked tentative, pinned and prodding, and the bowlers have lost confidence and are spraying it and over-stepping.

While it's true that a lot of Australian fans probably haven't given the English bowlers enough credit, there are definitely English fans that are seeking some kind of payback for Australia's confident/arrogant attitude, and are looking to have their cake and eat it too (not that I blame you) - let's see how you guys look if you manage to dominate the game for ten years or so though. A very dominant side in decline always tends to look jaded and laughably arrogant, but it's rare that arrogance itself is to blame for the heirarchy changing - it usually just means a better team comes along.

Another wonderfull day to be an England fan this is just so enjoyable and now hoggard and jones have performed ever member of the side has made a vital contribution in this series. It was just great too see as soon as Australia came out too bat the ball started really swinging in the hands of a now for superior atack. I know some of the decisions were dodgy but really the aussies have too learn to play a swinging ball again and quickly

In terms of Aussie arrogance - at the very least, it's unlikely that Ponting will spit the dummy a la Richie Richardson at the end of the series. :)
