Nope. If Poland lose to England (and England win their other game) they get one of the 2 best runners-up spots which automatically qualify.

Seems there are some contradictory reports about this. Looks like there's a mathematical chance that Poland wouldn't automatically qualify.
Given the fact that the coach is under pressure, Rooney cant stay on the park, and "hard men" Ferdinand, Rooney and Beckham are squaring off with hand-bags at 10 paces, a mathematical chance is all it is.

Nope. Poland still have to play England. If they get beaten and England also wins its other remaining game, England wins the group and qualifies outright, with Poland going into the play-offs.
Steulen..hi m8...is the nederlands in the world cup yet?
I mean have they qualified? I hope so as they are great team to watch and add colour to the game.
You certainly cant miss the supporters ,and i think they would be the only team in football you would know by looking at the crowd.Baring having flags,of course.
Please tell me they are in it or at least going to make it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont need Warnie - last time we played Eng, it was more one-sided in our favour than the recent Ashes were in Eng's. :D

As for grouping, pretty much anyhting is possible given the disparity in rankings.

Needless to say, should we somehow manage to qualify, any group containing Aus will henceforth be known as "the Group of Death."
Group of death hahaha Absolute classic.
I bet the other teams are shaking at the prospect of the Oz making the finals ?
They will more than likely put us in a group on our own ,just to give the other teams a bit of a chance to at least gain some confidence,
still i see the final of world cup being Aus 5 Defeated Brazil 1 ,IMO ,well that was the score in my dream until i woke hahahaha

CricketWeb's Australian player review for the Ashes. English one should be up fairly soon. Enjoy. :)
Really enjoyed your article Sean, Good reading and honest assesment that is pretty well an accurate picture of the series.
Just one thing i want to point out that may be forgotten. If you cast the mind back to the tour opener with the 20/20 then ODI,Aus started poorly. The excuse was that they had not played for a few months and would take time to get into the grove. The few players to perform in ODI were ultimatlt the ones that ended up going home ,ie hussey ,symonds ,and they were replaced by S K Warne and Mr Langer, who come into the tests without the luxury that the others had ,match practise.
Warne playing in england and being the bowler he is was always going to play well as he knows no other way,But Langer come into the side without any first class matches or tests for a few months and was expected to perform. He did rise to the occasion,i guess im just saying he was at a bit of a dissadvantage to start and IMO i think he was Aus batsman of the series .Maybe a bit one eyed here but just some points that may have been forgotten.
Anyway a great read sean and look forward to the England review ,do you know where the other guys have posted their reviews or have they not done them as yet?

Well I'm sure some people have done so in this thread. For the front page though, it's just myself and wpdavid who'll be doing them, as he's doing the English view.

Anyway, thanks. Glad you liked it. :)

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, good ratings, Sean. I think you have been a tad more kind to Ponting in particular, but overall, I agree with your assessments.

I don't follow you here?
Ok maybe I didn't make myself clear:

You talk about the great sportsmanship and I'm asking what caused Michael Vaughan to change tact when he said he would not take the word of disputed catches before the series began (which you can say is not sportsmanship) and at Lords when Ponting and some of his team mates were hit, no Englishman asked if they were ok whic the Aussies did when Strauss got hit at OT (which would is sportsmanship).

Clear?

Vaughan never did change his position on disputed catches. And the reasons had nothing to do with "sportsmanship". There are examples of attempts at such pacts in the past and they usually end in recrimination. The disputed catch issue hasn't been an issue in international cricket since the ICC sensibly changed the regulations and Vaughan perfectly reasonably expressed the opinion that as there was no problem it didn't need solving. As for the other thing (batsmen being hit) well i don't recall him EVER making any public statements on the issue in the first place anyway. FWIW don't think you can compare the Strauss incident and the others - it really looked like he could be seriously hurt.

Lucky eddie ,we left you a post on ashes best combined team m8.
Didnt want you to miss it for obvious reasons!!!!!!!!
Thanks
I'm trying to catch up with everything now - my employers banned access to all sporting websites this week (I was able to get on to Cricket Web until Wednesday morning but then even that was canned). I've just this minute got home after a week abroad, poured myself a pint of home-made Irish stout and I'm away...

Thanks for that (whatever it is) - I'm sure that I will appreciate it.

:D

Really? Are you sure about that?

At least Aus is in the final play-off games.

Eng has yet to make it that far.
To tell the truth, I honestly couldn't care less about football any more.

An excellent read, especially your views on Harmison. I found it infuriating (and brilliant) to see when he bowled that over to Langer at The Oval where he was obviously cooking and Langer didn't have a clue. WHY CAN'T HE DO IT ALL THE TIME?!?!?
