He didn't open the bowling... it's only this year they've resorted to giving him the new cherry ;)

Craig McDermott & Merv Hughes took the new ball, Brendon Julian (remember him?) was first change, and Warnie second.

Scorecard - Gatt was number three, and Warne's first ball in a Test in England did for him.
Hi Neil
Just with Brendan Jullian m8,he now compares the cricket over here on the pay TV (foxtel) he took over from David Hookes after his untimely death.
He is sensational, really clear and knows what he is talking about. He will be the face of cricket in Oz when richie and co go to greener pastures i predict,as channel 9 here who runs the cricket have offered him the world to jump on board. Useless trivia huh???
Neil you might also know ,is warney the only bloke to do that double of 1st ball and last ball in ashes cricket claiming a wicket? Also m8 is any thread on here about records broken in this series ,ie i think Peiterson had a record 8th wicket stand at the oval with giles for ashes or oval tests?
Guess im looking for more trivial stuff huh ?hahahahahaha

Really? Are you sure about that?

At least Aus is in the final play-off games.

Eng has yet to make it that far.
They have made it that far actually, England are guaranteed at least second in their group which would put them into a play-off. If they win their last 2 group games (which is still more likely than not, Poland have automatically qualified already) they'll go through, England might well get through automatically as one of the best runners-up without the 2 wins as well.

It was a record for Ashes Tests at the Oval.

If you want stats, you can't go wrong with HowStat - but no idea about the other details, though, much too young for that!

So they might be the "best losers."

Appropriate description really

Cheeky Social very Cheeky hahaha
I noted the mighty oz team moved up to 50th in the world rankings at soccer this morning, they jumped up 7 places. Not sure how they work the teams and groups out but is it possible that if Aus defeat the 5th ranked south american team to claim a spot in world cup finals they can be grouped with England? If so are we allowed to play Warney at soccer as well, but make a riule that England are not allowed to play freddie F??? seriously can we be in the England group?

Dont need Warnie - last time we played Eng, it was more one-sided in our favour than the recent Ashes were in Eng's. :D

As for grouping, pretty much anyhting is possible given the disparity in rankings.

Needless to say, should we somehow manage to qualify, any group containing Aus will henceforth be known as "the Group of Death."

I think, somewhere in there, jl-o is telling us that Warne has played his final Ashes test -- not sure if that has been announced anywhere other than CricketWeb yet... but we hear that jl-o is an authoritative source...

I, for one, would be extremely sad if he were to retire anytime soon. You just don't see bowlers of that quality crop up anytime soon.

Losers occur in 2 horse races - ie the recent Ashes, where England were winners and Australia losers.

2nd place in any league (unless its a league of 2) is not a loser.

Can I add another?

The supreme level of sportsmanship between the 2 sides.

Harks back to a golden age when you'd go hell for leather in the middle then sit and have a pint in the evening as mates.
So why the suidden change from Michael Vaughan?

I mean he said no he won't take the word of fielders of disputed catches and if any Aussie was hit, him and none of his players would say zilch (unless to say well bowled [inset name]).

Nope. Poland still have to play England. If they get beaten and England also wins its other remaining game, England wins the group and qualifies outright, with Poland going into the play-offs.

Nope. If Poland lose to England (and England win their other game) they get one of the 2 best runners-up spots which automatically qualify.

Seems there are some contradictory reports about this. Looks like there's a mathematical chance that Poland wouldn't automatically qualify.
