Would have been nice if Gilo had got a hundred - fitting I guess that Warne got a five-fer in his last bowl in a Test match in England.
for the amount of criticism that giles got at the start of the summer, its amazing how much of a thorn hes been on australias side.
first he denied them victory in the natwest final at Lords, then he helped england win at trent bridge, and now he scores a 50 in the all important test match at the oval. too bad he hasnt done anything significant with the ball though.

Useless Fact

An England bowler conceded more than a hundred runs three time (Giles at Old Trafford, Flintoff at Lords, Giles at Trent Bridge)

Australia's bowlers conceded more than 100 ten times (Lee and Warne at Edgebaston, Lee, Gillespie and Mcgrath at OT, Lee, Kasper, Warne at Trent Bridge, Warne *2 at Oval )

May I ask what Tait's doing ?
has ponting heard of the term rotating his bowlers? tait should have bowled more than 5 overs no matter how far away he is from being test class at the moment. and surely during that partnership of giles and pietersen it might have been worthwhile to actually let warne bowl from another end?

What is the point in carrying on now..This is the worst part of a test match when a captain goes on and on and on... I just hate it.

Does Vaughan have no confidence in his bowlers or what ?
its not like england had a chance of bowling out australia at the time anyways.
i'd doubt any of the bowlers were interested in having a bowl when there was barely any point in doing so. its far better to add salt to the wounds and let giles get to 50 instead.

Useless fact #1. :cool2:

Flintoff bowled 70 no-balls this series.
That's more of an irritating fact, take away those no-balls and his bowling average for the series drops by 3, if he goes at 3 an over off those no-balls there's another 1.5 off the average, if he'd took wickets on them (which I don't think he did luckily for him) then it'd suffer even more.

Useless fact #2 :cool2:

The two openers for England were the two people to face the most balls during the series (Trescothick 715 & Strauss 680).

That's all very well and good, but isn't he supposed to be a wicket taker? When we really need him to take wickets he doesn't. The trend in this series is relative to his career - very, very inconsistent. If he's not taking wickets he should be keeping the runs down which he's not capable of doing. And when he isn't taking wickets he slips into stupid mode - bowling short ball after short ball.
cant see how out of all the players in the australia you manage to criticise b.lee, who while hes been inconsistent has still been far far better than almost everyone else in the side. ideally he shouldnt your main pace bowler, but a support bowler because hes not consistent enough. and thats australias problem, they dont have someone with consistency who can replace mcgrath and warne ATM. and tait is not the answer.

The Ashes has been at stake all series yes. But a draw would mean Australia would still be in the series in earlier matches. In the current match a draw is like a loss to Australia. Which calls for more catching positions.
So of course in the first 4 matches they've not been trying to get wickets have they?8-)

Congrats to England, well deserved. I was supporting Australia but England played incredibly well throughout the series, can't begrudge them this result at all. Well done.

Tait should have been given the new ball ahead of Lee.
Tait should've been given more than 5 overs all day, especially with Lee bowling such tripe.

Not the best way to show confidence in your young pacer.

Pietersen finally out, fantastic knock.

But I'd just like to say thank you very much to Richie Benaud, there will never be another like you, sir. It was a pleasure listening to you.
Have to say it's fitting that he bowed out with McGrath's last Test wicket in England.

That said I would've expected them to give him the honour of the last stint of the series.
