***Official*** Australia in England (The Ashes)

Next session is obviously the decisive one today. If England get an early wicket the game is done, but if Gilchrist gets going and Katich goes with him, Australia could easily have a tricky target set up by tea.

Australia really could have done without Clarke's wicket. That said, Gilchrist just needs to play his natural game, just slightly more watchfully. Katich is looking pretty set, but will probably run out of partners.

No, it's 6-5, because Tony Greig says the runs count double now.
Don't the wickets count double as well, then then?

Continuing Tanny Grig's logic, it's 6 all out, and England lead the Ashes 2-1 with just the Oval to come.

Or is that 4-2?

Yes, definitely 4-2.

Sod off home, bread-stealers, you've lost the Ashes already.

No wonder South Africans can't get to grips with Duckworth-Lewis.

Australia really need to be looking to bat out the day and post 200. Although getting a chance to bowl at England just before stumps could provide the Aussies with a little bit of an edge, depending on how Lee and Tait bowl.

By the way, does anyone know how Tait is with the bat?

This afternoon is going to be great fun, if England manage to get a couple of quick wickets and get Australia out, then great. If Gilly kicks off and smashes England all around the park, it'll be great fun to watch. I'm just looking forward to a great afternoons play. :)

didn't see him bat in the 1st innings but from what other aussies are saying on this forum he sounds like a bunny

Mmm. Interesting session, but I still can't see a lead of under 200 being remotely defendable if the pitch continues to play well. They've batted pretty well though, partly because of Jones' absence. This innings has emphasised how much England have gained from being able to play five bowlers, which further emphasises the worth of Flintoff. Katich has looked solid enough, but Gilchrist still looks as though he is going to be dismissed by Flintoff bowling around the wicket. Quite remarkable that he hasn't come up with a solution to that problem yet. :(

By the way, wasn't Jones' botched stumping a shocker.

With Simon Jones out, this could be quite interesting, especially with the tail, as Jones seems to be pretty much the only bowler who can make them bat like actual tailenders. If Australia can put the pressure onto one of the bowlers, it will put the other three under a lot of pressure and perhaps make it easier for them.

Quite good, saw him play for aus A and he didnt look that bad, better batter than kaspa
Really? Tait averages 11 to Kasper's 17 in FC cricket, and Kasper's got 11 fifties. If Kasper managed three more runs in the second Test, we wouldn't be having this discussion. :p

They're both nouns - and that's about as close as it gets.

(along the lines of "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle")
A Tait needs a bat like a cauliflower needs a quadratic equation....pretty catchy..unlike KP

Kasper has also played many many more games than tait... Tait has an alright technique and can really hit the ball.
